  • Telrad Reflex Sight w/ Mounting Base

The Telrad Reflex Sight (item 1001) is a non-magnifying reflex sight: it shows an illuminated red reticle on its combining glass, seen against the night sky, so you can point your telescope with both eyes open. A mounting base is included.

    Non-Magnified Aiming

Unlike a traditional finderscope, the Telrad provides no magnification. Instead, it gives you a 1x view of the sky exactly as you see it, with the illuminated reticle showing where your telescope is pointed, without the need to orient yourself to a magnified field of view.

    Telrad Accessories

Every Telrad includes one mounting base that attaches to your telescope tube. For observers with multiple instruments, additional bases can be purchased to make the Telrad sight easily transferable between them. The sight is held on the base by the base's thumb screws.

A range of optional accessories is available to adapt the Telrad to your specific needs and observing environment.

    • Base Extensions: Installed between the mounting base and the Telrad, they increase separation from the telescope tube and extend eye relief (2.5 in and 4 in heights).
    • Dew Shields: The Telrad's clear combining glass is exposed to the night air and can be prone to dewing over. A simple dew shield accessory protects the glass from moisture, while a "plus" version includes a mirror for right-angle viewing.
  • What is a Telrad Reflex Sight and how does it work?

The Telrad is a zero-magnification finder for telescopes. It shows an illuminated red reticle on its combining glass; looking through the glass, you see the reticle against the night sky, showing where your telescope is aimed. It allows you to keep both eyes open for a natural, unmagnified view.

What batteries does the Telrad use?

The Telrad Reflex Sight does not include batteries. Batteries are not included with Telrad products.

How do I prevent dew from forming on the Telrad's window?

The Telrad's clear viewing screen is susceptible to dew in damp conditions, which can make the reticle difficult to see. The most effective solution is the optional Telrad Dew Shield (item 2020) or Dew Shield plus (item 2025).

Can I use one Telrad Reflex Sight on multiple telescopes?

Absolutely. The Telrad sight itself detaches from its mounting base via two thumbscrews. You can purchase an extra Telrad Mounting Base (item 2001) for each of your telescopes and simply move the single Telrad unit from one to another as needed.

The Telrad is too close to my telescope tube for comfortable viewing. What can I do?

For larger telescopes or certain mounting positions, you may need more clearance. Telrad offers optional Base Extensions that fit between the standard mounting base and the sight itself. They increase separation from the telescope tube and extend eye relief. Two heights: 2.5 in (64 mm) and 4 in (102 mm).
