What is the main advantage of the Baader T-2 Amici Prism?
It gives a fully correct, erect and non-reversed image while being, in Baader's words, astro-quality for the highest magnifications, manufactured to Zeiss standard and very compact.
Is the Baader T-2 Amici Prism made for astronomical use?
Baader makes its Astro-Amici diagonals for the highest magnifications and astronomical purposes, distinct from its terrestrial Amici prisms for lower magnifications.
How do I attach a standard 1.25" eyepiece to the Baader T-2 Amici Prism?
You will need a T-2 to 1.25" eyepiece adapter, which is sold separately. You can thread an adapter like the Baader ClickLock Eyepiece Clamp 1.25" / T-2 (#2458100) or the Focusing Eyepiece Holder 1.25" / T-2 (#2458125) directly onto the male T-2 thread on the prism's eyepiece side for a secure, rigid connection.
What makes the BBHS® coating on the Baader Amici Prism special?
BBHS® (Broadband Hard-Coated Silver) gives 98-99% reflection from slightly above 390nm to 2000nm. On this prism the silver is elaborately sealed on the roof surfaces, which protects it against ageing.
What is included?
The T-2 Astro Amici prism itself. Nosepieces and eyepiece holders are separate parts of Baader's T-2 system.
What is the optical length of the Baader T-2 Amici Prism?
The optical length is 47.5 mm, and the prism is very compact and extremely short thanks to its T-2 threads on both sides, so it needs less of the telescope's backfocus than Baader's 2" Astro Amici prism (85 mm).
How do I connect the Baader T-2 Amici Prism to a telescope with a 2" focuser?
You will need a T-2 to 2" nosepiece adapter, such as the Baader Nosepiece 2" to T-2 (#2408150). This adapter threads onto the female T-2 port on the telescope side of the prism, and fits all 2" eyepiece clamps; it has a 2" (M48) filter thread.
How does it differ from Baader's terrestrial Amici prisms?
Baader makes its terrestrial Amici prisms, such as the 1.25" 45° prism (#2956150) and the 2" 90° prism (#2956152), for lower magnifications up to about 60-100x, similar to spotting scopes, with eyepiece clamps and nosepieces usually fixed to the housing. The Astro-Amici prisms are made for the highest magnifications and astronomical purposes, and this T-2 version takes interchangeable T-2 adapters.
Can filters be used with the T-2 Amici prism?
Yes, through the nosepiece: the 1.25" to T-2 nosepiece (#2458105) has a 1.25" (M28.5) filter holder and the 2" to T-2 nosepiece (#2408150) a 2" (M48) filter thread. All Baader star diagonals can also be combined with the Universal Filter Changer; for T-2 diagonals the parts are #2459115, #2459110 and #2459130, which place the UFC in front of or behind the diagonal.
Can a binoviewer be attached?
The Standard T-2 Changer System (#2456321) and the TQC/TCR Heavy Duty T-2 Quick Changing System (#2456322) allow compact connection and rotation of heavy accessories such as binoviewers on these T-2 diagonals. Whether a given setup reaches focus depends on the telescope's backfocus; the prism's optical length is 47.5 mm.
