  • Baader Morpheus Complete Eyepiece Set

The Baader Morpheus Complete Eyepiece Set holds all six Morpheus 76° eyepieces, each with 8 lenses in 5 groups (one ED and two lanthanum elements). With dual 1.25" and 2" barrels, an integrated M43 camera thread, and Phantom Coating® Group multicoatings, this 5.80 kg set provides a comprehensive range of magnifications for both visual observation and imaging.

The 6 Focal Lengths: From 4.5mm to 17.5mm

This complete set includes all six focal lengths in the Morpheus series: 4.5 mm, 6.5 mm, 9 mm, 12.5 mm, 14 mm, and 17.5 mm. Technical data: 4.5mm (eye relief 17.5mm, field stop 6.1mm), 6.5mm (18.5mm, 8.75mm), 9mm (21mm, 12.1mm), 12.5mm (20mm, 16.8mm), 14mm (18.5mm, 18.85mm) and 17.5mm (23mm, 23.55mm). The series is the complement to low-magnification eyepieces, and the Morpheus eyepieces excel at planetary observation as well as deep-sky objects. The 4.5mm to 14mm are parfocal, with a field stop displacement of 0mm; the 17.5mm differs by +2.5mm and needs a small focus change.

    A 76° Flat-Field, Low-Distortion View

Morpheus eyepieces give a sharp image right to the edge of the field, and the angular magnification distortion is exceedingly low, so planets and lunar features keep their shapes as they cross the field.

    • Phantom Coating® Group: The coatings were further optimised for the Morpheus and index-matched to each of the different glasses.
    • Optimized Baffling: The internal mechanics have been ray-traced and baffled against stray light and reflections.
    • True Field of View: The 76° is the true value calculated from field size and focal length.

Optimized for Binoviewing with a 55mm Body

The Morpheus series was designed for binoviewing: a 55mm outer housing diameter throughout the series allows binoviewing from 55mm interpupillary distance, even for children, and the body has been made as small as possible for nose clearance. No metal was added simply for look or feel.

Dual 1.25"/2" Barrels with Safety Kerfs & 21mm Backfocus Gain

Each Morpheus eyepiece includes both 1.25" and 2" barrels without requiring an adapter. Baader's technical data gives a back focus gain of 21mm when the 2" barrel is used, compared with the 1.25" barrel.

The 1.25" barrel is 24mm and the 2" barrel 21mm long. Baader's Slip-Protect Safety-Kerfs on the 1.25" and 2" barrels are numerous shallow kerfs that give additional grip and security against inadvertent drops from smooth-sided barrels, without the problems sometimes caused by traditional wide undercuts.

The M43 Thread for Eyepiece Projection

Hidden beneath the foldable rubber eyecup is the M43 photo-video thread. The distortion is even lower than in the Hyperion eyepieces, and the flat field design suits photographic projection. With the optional M43/T-2 adapter (#2958080), the Astro T-2 System and T-2 camera rings can be used for classical eyepiece projection; for afocal projection, the M43/SP54 extension ring (#2954251) opens the Hyperion DT-ring system. A C-Mount adapter (#2958520) screws matching cameras onto the eyepiece.

Field Ergonomics: Luminescent Labels and Modular Eyecups

Designed for practical use in total darkness, the Morpheus eyepieces incorporate features to improve handling and identification. Baader's luminescent lettering glows in a soft green after the eyepiece has been in the light or briefly lit with a flashlight; the main letters shine for up to three minutes, so the focal length can be recognised in the dark.

    • Modular Eyecups: Each eyepiece comes with a rubber/metal folding eyecup with M43 thread and a winged eyecup (M43); the winged cup is for binoviewing with eyeglasses.
    • Secure Grip: A wide waffle-patterned rubber grip ring provides handling security.
    • M43 Extension: The M43/M43 extension (#2954250) optimises the eyecup position for your viewing position, adapts M43 cameras and serves as a clamping surface for smartphone holders.

The Complete Set: 6 Eyepieces, Case, and Utility Bag

The set's extended scope of supply includes the Hyperion/Morpheus eyepiece case (#2454601) and the Baader Utility Bag for small accessories (#2954201). The Cordura eyepiece holster, the focal length indicator clip and the M43/M43 extension are among the included accessories. The set's net weight is 5.80 kg.

  • What does the set add to the single eyepieces?

The set holds all six focal lengths and adds Baader's Hyperion/Morpheus eyepiece case (#2454601) and the Baader Utility Bag (#2954201) as its extended scope of supply.

What magnification does each eyepiece give?

    Magnification is the telescope's focal length divided by the eyepiece focal length. On a telescope of 1000mm focal length the set gives about 222x (4.5mm), 154x (6.5mm), 111x (9mm), 80x (12.5mm), 71x (14mm) and 57x (17.5mm).

Why are Morpheus eyepieces suited to binoviewing?

Baader designed the Morpheus series for binoviewing: a 55mm outer housing diameter throughout the series allows binoviewing from 55mm interpupillary distance, even for children, and the body has been made as small as possible for nose clearance. A winged eyecup is supplied for binoviewing with eyeglasses.

Can the Morpheus eyepieces be used for imaging?

Yes. Each has an M43 thread under the eyecup. With the optional M43/T-2 adapter (#2958080), the Astro T-2 System and T-2 camera rings can be used for classical eyepiece projection; for afocal projection the M43/SP54 extension ring (#2954251) opens the Hyperion DT-ring system. A C-Mount adapter (#2958520) is also available for screwing matching cameras onto the eyepiece.

What are the 'Safety-Kerfs' on the Morpheus barrels?

Baader's Slip-Protect Safety-Kerfs on the 1.25" and 2" barrels are numerous shallow kerfs that give additional grip and security against inadvertent drops from smooth-sided barrels, without the problems sometimes caused by traditional wide undercuts.

How does the luminescent lettering on the Morpheus eyepieces work in the field?

Baader's luminescent lettering glows in a soft green after the eyepiece has been in the light or briefly lit with a flashlight; the main letters shine for up to three minutes, so the focal length can be recognised in the dark.

Are the Baader Morpheus eyepieces parfocal?

The Morpheus eyepieces from 4.5mm to 14mm are parfocal: the technical data gives a field stop displacement of 0mm for them and +2.5mm for the 17.5mm, so the 17.5mm needs a small focus change.

What is the difference between the two included eyecup styles for the Morpheus eyepieces?

Each Morpheus eyepiece comes with two styles of eyecups that attach via the M43 thread. The first is a soft rubber folding eyecup with an integral M43-threaded metal ring, which stays securely attached when folded. The second is a winged eyecup with a foldable side shield, which provides comfort and exclusion of stray light for binoviewing with eyeglasses.

Can I use filters with the Baader Morpheus eyepieces?

Yes. The Morpheus eyepieces are threaded for standard filters. The 1.25" barrel has an M28.5 inner thread, so 1.25" filters can be used.

How does the integrated 2" barrel on a Morpheus eyepiece save backfocus?

The 2" barrel is integrated into the eyepiece. Baader's technical data gives a back focus gain of 21mm when the 2" barrel is used, compared with the 1.25" barrel.
