  • Balancing Weight 1kg, with ¼" photo thread (male/female)

This 1kg Balancing Weight provides a compact and universal solution for fine-tuning your setup's balance, featuring a standard ¼" photo thread for direct attachment. Constructed from solid stainless steel, it's designed to precisely offset the weight of cameras, guidescopes, or other accessories that can compromise tracking accuracy.

Universal 1kg Balancing for Mounts, Rigs, and Accessories

Perfect balance is critical for sharp, long-exposure images, and small accessories often create imbalances that a mount's main counterweights can't fix. This 1kg weight is the ideal tool for correcting top-heavy or side-heavy loads caused by guidescopes, piggybacked cameras, or heavy eyepiece setups. Its universal ¼" photo thread allows it to be mounted directly to dovetail bars, tube rings, or camera bodies.

The stackable design, with both male and female ¼" threads, lets you combine multiple weights to precisely match your needs. Made from solid stainless steel, this weight resists corrosion and will provide reliable service for years, whether in a permanent observatory or out in the field.

  • What is the Balancing Weight 1kg used for?

The Balancing Weight 1kg is used to make small, precise adjustments to the balance of a telescope setup. It's ideal for offsetting the weight of accessories like guidescopes, cameras, or heavy eyepieces that are mounted away from the optical tube's center of gravity.

Can I stack multiple 1kg Balancing Weights?

Yes. The weight features a male ¼" photo thread on one side and a female ¼" thread on the other. This allows you to screw multiple weights together to create a 2kg, 3kg, or heavier stack as needed for your specific setup.

I have a heavy DSLR and lens piggybacked on my refractor. How can the 1kg Balancing Weight help?

You can attach the 1kg Balancing Weight to a threaded hole on your telescope's tube rings or dovetail bar, on the opposite side of your DSLR. This directly counteracts the off-axis load from the camera, restoring proper balance and preventing strain on your mount's RA and Dec motors.

Will this 1kg weight fit on a standard Vixen or Losmandy dovetail bar?

It can be attached to any dovetail bar that has a standard ¼"-20 threaded hole. Most universal dovetail bars include multiple threaded holes specifically for mounting accessories like this balancing weight.

Is the Balancing Weight 1kg made of a material that will rust?

No. It is machined from solid stainless steel, which is highly resistant to rust and corrosion. This ensures it remains durable and functional even when used in damp, outdoor conditions.

Can I use this 1kg weight to balance a guidescope on my 8" SCT?

Absolutely. An 8" SCT with a guidescope mounted on top is a classic scenario where this weight is useful. You can attach the 1kg weight to the underside of the main dovetail bar, directly opposite the guidescope, to perfectly counteract the top-heavy imbalance and ensure smooth tracking.
