  • Baader V-Series 1kg Leveling Counterweight & Clamp

The Baader V-Series Leveling Counterweight & Clamp is a specialized accessory for eliminating minor imbalances in your telescope system. By clamping directly onto any Vixen-style or Synta EQ dovetail bar, it allows for minute, sliding adjustments that perfectly counteract the weight of cameras, finderscopes, or heavy eyepieces without needing to reposition your primary counterweights.

V-Series & Synta EQ Dovetail Compatibility

This counterweight integrates a robust V-Series (Vixen-style) clamp, ensuring a secure fit on the most common dovetail standard in amateur astronomy. Its design also guarantees compatibility with the dovetail bars found on Synta EQ mounts, allowing you to attach it anywhere along the optical tube's mounting plate for maximum balancing flexibility.

    Precision Balance for Lightweight Accessories

Even small changes to your setup, like adding a guidescope or swapping a 1.25" diagonal for a 2" model, can disrupt your telescope's balance. The Baader Leveling Counterweight is designed to correct these exact situations. By sliding it along the dovetail, you can achieve perfect equilibrium, which reduces strain on your mount's drive motors and results in more accurate tracking for astrophotography.

  • What is the main purpose of the Baader V-Series Leveling Counterweight?

Its primary purpose is to provide fine-tuning for your telescope's balance. When you add or change small accessories like a finderscope, guide camera, or heavy eyepiece, this sliding weight allows you to quickly restore perfect balance without having to make large, coarse adjustments to your main counterweights on the declination shaft.

Will the Baader V-Series Clamp fit on a Losmandy D-style dovetail?

No. This counterweight is designed specifically for the narrower V-Series (Vixen-style) dovetail bars. It will not fit on the wider Losmandy D-style plates.

How does the Baader V-Series Counterweight improve tracking on my Synta EQ mount?

A perfectly balanced telescope puts minimal strain on the motors of your Synta EQ mount. When the mount doesn't have to struggle against an imbalance, its motors can turn more smoothly and consistently. This directly translates to more accurate tracking and guiding, which is critical for sharp, long-exposure astrophotography.

I just added a 50mm guidescope to my 8" SCT. Is the Baader V-Series Counterweight the right tool to rebalance it?

Yes, this is an ideal scenario for the Baader Leveling Counterweight. An 8" SCT is sensitive to fore-aft balance changes, and a guidescope adds weight off-center. By clamping this weight onto your main dovetail bar and sliding it to the opposite side or end of the guidescope, you can precisely counteract that added weight and restore perfect balance.

Where on my telescope's dovetail bar should I place the Baader V-Series Leveling Counterweight?

You should place it on the dovetail bar to oppose the imbalance. If you add a camera to the back of the scope, you may need to slide the weight toward the front. If you add a heavy dew shield to the front, you would slide the weight toward the back. It acts as a lever, so small movements can have a significant effect on balance.

Why use a small sliding counterweight like the Baader V-Series instead of just moving my main counterweights?

Main counterweights on the counterweight shaft are for correcting large imbalances in the optical tube's total weight. The Baader V-Series is for correcting small, subtle imbalances caused by accessories. It is a tool for precision. Attempting to make a tiny correction by moving a large, heavy counterweight is often difficult and imprecise, whereas this sliding weight makes it simple and exact.
