  • Celestron Dew Shield DX for C9.25 & C11

The Celestron Dew Shield DX is an essential field accessory for any 9.25" or 11" Celestron optical tube, constructed from a durable 3.556mm thick Polyethylene material. Measuring 431mm by 1066.8mm, this 1.8 lb shield effectively prevents moisture from condensing on your corrector lens and blocks stray light from degrading your images.

    Felt-Lined Interior for Maximum Contrast

The interior surface of the Dew Shield DX is lined with felt, which serves two critical functions. It absorbs stray, off-axis light from external sources like streetlights or moonlight, preventing it from entering the optical tube and washing out faint details. This lining also absorbs excess moisture, further managing dew and ensuring your views of deep-sky objects remain dark and full of contrast.

A Custom Fit for 9.25" and 11" OTAs

Designed for a perfect fit, the Dew Shield DX wraps securely around both 9.25-inch and 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, and RASA optical tubes. The attachment is handled by robust Velcro strips, allowing you to adjust the tension for a non-slip grip. Extra padding along the attachment edge ensures a solid connection without scratching your telescope's finish, and a deep, wide dovetail cutout accommodates rails up to 4 inches wide.

  • Will the Dew Shield DX fit my non-Celestron 11" SCT?

While designed specifically for Celestron 9.25" and 11" optical tubes, the flexible Polyethylene construction and adjustable Velcro closure may allow it to fit other brands. However, a perfect fit cannot be guaranteed, particularly around the dovetail bar.

How does the Dew Shield DX help with imaging the Orion Nebula (M42) from my backyard?

When imaging a bright object like the Orion Nebula (M42) from a light-polluted area, the felt-lined interior of the Dew Shield DX is critical. It blocks stray light from local sources from hitting your corrector plate, which darkens the background sky in your images and significantly improves the contrast between the nebula's faint outer structures and the sky.

How do I store the Celestron Dew Shield DX after an observing session?

The shield is designed for portability. After your session, simply detach it from your telescope, unroll it flat, and then roll it up tightly for compact storage. Its 1.8 lb weight makes it easy to transport with the rest of your gear.

Can I use the Dew Shield DX on my 11" RASA telescope?

Yes, the Dew Shield DX fits the 11" Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA) when the tube has a single dovetail. The wide dovetail cutout is specifically designed to accommodate the 4" CGE-style dovetail bar found on larger Celestron OTAs.

Does the felt lining require any special care?

The felt lining is very low-maintenance. If it becomes damp after a dewy night, simply allow it to air dry completely before rolling it up for storage to prevent mildew. If it gets dusty, you can clean it gently with a lint roller or a soft brush.
