  • Explore Scientific Cradle for DAR 152mm

This Explore Scientific Cradle is the factory-replacement mounting solution specifically designed for the Doublet AR Series 152mm refractor OTA. The integrated, slotted handle provides a secure grip for transport and includes standard 1/4–20 attachment points for mounting a guidescope or camera directly to the optical tube assembly.

Hinged Ring Design for the Explore Scientific DAR 152mm

Engineered for a precise fit, this cradle assembly holds the DAR 152mm optical tube securely while protecting its finish. The hinged rings open wide for easy installation of the OTA, and are locked down with oversized metal thumbscrews that you can operate even with gloves on. The attached Vixen-style dovetail plate ensures compatibility with a wide range of popular mounts, including the Explore Scientific Twilight series.

Slotted Handle with 1/4–20 Accessory Mounting

The integrated handle is more than just a carrying point; it's a functional part of your imaging setup. Made from extruded aluminum, the slotted handle makes it easy to lift and move your telescope when it's off the mount. For imagers, the handle is equipped with standard 1/4–20 threaded holes, allowing you to attach a guidescope, piggyback camera, or other accessories without needing additional hardware.

  • Is the Explore Scientific cradle compatible with any 152mm telescope?

No, this cradle is specifically designed as a replacement for the Explore Scientific Doublet AR (DAR) 152mm telescope. While it may fit other tubes with a similar outer diameter, a perfect and secure fit is only guaranteed for the intended model. Always check the required inside diameter for your specific telescope before purchasing.

How do I mount a guidescope to the DAR 152mm cradle?

The integrated carry handle on top of the rings features standard 1/4–20 threaded holes. You can attach a guidescope ring or a small dovetail bar directly to this handle using standard 1/4–20 bolts, providing a stable platform for autoguiding.

Will the Explore Scientific DAR 152mm cradle fit on my Celestron AVX or iOptron CEM26 mount?

Yes. The cradle comes with an attached Vixen-style dovetail plate. Since mounts like the Celestron AVX and iOptron CEM26 use a Vixen-style saddle, this cradle assembly will attach directly to them without any adapters.

Does this cradle for the DAR 152mm come with felt lining?

Yes, the cradle rings are lined to provide a snug fit that holds the optical tube firmly in place while protecting the tube's delicate surface from scratches during installation and use.

Why is the hinged design of the DAR 152mm cradle useful?

The hinged design allows you to open the rings completely, making it much easier and safer to place the telescope tube into the cradle. Rather than sliding the tube through the rings, you simply lay it in place and close the top half, securing it with the large thumbscrews. This minimizes the risk of dropping or scratching the OTA.

Can I remove the dovetail plate from the Explore Scientific cradle?

Yes, the Vixen-style dovetail plate is typically bolted to the bottom of the cradle rings. This allows you to remove it and replace it with a different style, such as a Losmandy-style plate, if your mount requires it.
