How does the PrimaLuceLab ECCO2 prevent dew?
The ECCO2 uses built-in sensors to measure the ambient air temperature, humidity, and pressure. It uses this data to calculate the dew point—the exact temperature at which condensation will form. It then reads the temperature of your telescope's optics via external probes and directs your EAGLE to supply just enough power to the dew heaters to keep the glass slightly warmer than the dew point, preventing dew from ever forming.
Which EAGLE models are compatible with the ECCO2?
The ECCO2 is compatible with the EAGLE5, EAGLE4, EAGLE LE, EAGLE3, and EAGLE2. Please note that for use with an EAGLE2, an update of the operating system and EAGLE Manager software is required.
Can I use the PrimaLuceLab ECCO2 without an EAGLE computer?
Yes, but with limited functionality. Using the provided ASCOM driver, you can connect the ECCO2 to a standard Windows 10/11 computer to use it as a high-quality environmental monitor. It will provide real-time temperature, humidity, and pressure data to compatible software, but it cannot control dew heaters without being connected to an EAGLE.
How many temperature probes do I need for the ECCO2 on my 11" SCT with a guide scope?
For a typical Schmidt-Cassegrain setup with a separate guide scope, you would ideally use two temperature probes. Place one near the edge of the main corrector plate and the second on the objective lens of your guide scope. The ECCO2 supports up to three probes, leaving you a spare channel for a finder scope or other accessory.
Will the ECCO2's readings be affected by heat from my EAGLE4?
No. PrimaLuceLab deliberately designed the ECCO2 as an external module for precisely this reason. If the sensors were inside the EAGLE's main body, its own processor heat would corrupt the ambient temperature and humidity readings. By placing the ECCO2 on a finder shoe away from the main computer, it records accurate, reliable environmental data.
How do I mount the PrimaLuceLab ECCO2 to my telescope?
The ECCO2 comes with a foot that fits directly into any standard Vixen-style finder scope base. If your telescope doesn't have a spare base, you can add one easily. The ECCO2 can also serve as a mounting point itself for a guide scope or finder by adding the optional "Guide scope support for ECCO" accessory.
