The UVEX is optimized for an F/8 focal ratio, making it an excellent match for Ritchey-Chretien (RC), Schmidt-Cassegrain (SCT), or other catadioptric telescopes. It can be used on scopes as fast as F/5, but with a minor loss of resolution at the field edges.
How do I change the spectral resolution with the UVEX?
You can adjust the resolution in two ways. First, by selecting a different slit width on the 6-position slit wheel; a narrower slit like the 25µm provides higher resolution. Second, by swapping out the included 600 tr/mm grating for an optional one with a different line density.
Can the UVEX Spectroscope capture the spectrum of a star like Vega (Alpha Lyrae) in the UV?
Yes. The UVEX has a spectral range extending down to 350 nm, which is well into the near-ultraviolet. This makes it ideal for studying the prominent Balmer absorption lines in the spectra of hot, A-type stars like Vega.
