What kind of power supply does the Sky-Watcher Flextube 300P SynScan need?
10 to 15 V DC at 1 A, through a 2.1 mm center-positive plug. A 12V DC car-lighter power cable is included; the battery or power supply is sold separately.
How heavy are the tube and base?
The tube weighs 21 kg (skywatcher.com) and the base 53 lb (Sky-Watcher USA). They transport as two pieces.
What is "Freedom Find" on the Flextube 300P SynScan, and why is it useful?
Sky-Watcher's patented Freedom Find dual-encoder technology lets you move the telescope by hand or electronically in either axis without losing its alignment or position information. After you move to a new object, the telescope begins tracking it.
Can I use 2-inch eyepieces with the Sky-Watcher Flextube 300P?
Yes. The 2" Crayford-style focuser takes 2-inch eyepieces, and a 2" to 1.25" adapter is included.
Does the collapsible Flextube design hold collimation well?
The collapsible design is easy to collimate once set up and holds its collimation throughout the evening.
How do I align the Flextube 300P SynScan GoTo system?
Level the base and align the finder first. Brightest-Star alignment, recommended if you are new to the sky, asks for one of eight regions and lists the stars brighter than magnitude 1.5 there; Two-Star alignment lets you choose two stars from a list, at least 60 degrees apart in azimuth. You center the first star manually, and the mount slews to the second for you to center.
How accurate is the GoTo pointing on the Flextube 300P SynScan?
GoTo pointing accuracy is up to 5 arc minutes.
Can I still point the Flextube 300P by hand and have it track objects?
Yes. In Auto-Tracking mode you move the telescope by hand or electronically without deactivating tracking; after moving to a new object it tracks it, and the hand control works as a digital setting circle.
How do I go to a Messier object?
After alignment, press the M shortcut key and enter the object's number with the numeric keys. ENTER shows its coordinates, and ENTER again slews the telescope to it.
What magnification do the included eyepieces give?
75x with the 20 mm eyepiece and 120x with the 12.5 mm. The highest practical power is 610x.
What tracking rates does it have?
Sidereal, lunar and solar, in dual-axis tracking mode.
Can I observe the Sun with it?
Only with a proper solar filter. Never look directly at the Sun through the telescope, never use an eyepiece-type solar filter, never project sunlight with it, and cap the finderscope when observing the Sun.
