Launch Imaging AssistantThe Sky-Watcher Heliostar 100Ha is a 100mm hydrogen-alpha solar telescope with an achromatic doublet objective, a 760mm focal length (f/7.6) and an etalon bandwidth under 0.5 Angstrom. It gives a 7.6mm solar image, and its 20mm blocking filter sits in the removable 1.25" eyepiece diagonal. The 13.2 lb tube comes with a 22mm 70° eyepiece, mounting rings, a solar finder and a hard carrying case.
Sky-Watcher designs it for serious solar observers and imaging enthusiasts. A combination of front and rear filters passes only monochromatic 656.28 nanometer light emitted by hydrogen atoms and blocks other wavelengths, allowing observation of active prominences in the H-alpha band.
H-alpha observing shows the dynamics of the Sun far beyond what a white-light solar filter can deliver: prominences on the limb (often mistakenly called flares), active sunspot regions, bright plage patches, surface granulation and wispy, snake-like plasma filaments.
Sky-Watcher's Solis etalon technology reaches a 0.5Å bandpass without the cost and complexity of a second etalon, so you can get detailed images of the solar disk right out of the box without further expense.
The etalon is pressure tuned, and the back focus is 20mm. The 20mm blocking filter is in the removable eyepiece diagonal.
The Heliostar 100Ha conforms to and meets the transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2:2015 (filters for the direct observation of the Sun). Always use it in accordance with the instructions and exercise the utmost caution when viewing the Sun.
It uses several technologies to protect the eye during solar observation: an infrared thermal ray reflection film, a special filter to block heat, and a filter to block UV light, which also block stray light that affects observation. Improper usage and practices can result in serious and even permanent eye damage.
It has a 2" dual-speed Crayford focuser, and a 2" to 1.25" adapter is included for the 1.25" diagonal and eyepiece.
The etalon is adjusted by pressure tuning.
The solar image is 7.6mm across, and the included 22mm 70° UltraWide eyepiece gives 34.5x.
Sky-Watcher designs the Heliostar 100Ha for serious solar observers and imaging enthusiasts, and lists a back focus of 20mm.
The tube weighs 6 kg (13.2 lb) and is 760mm (30 inches) long. It attaches to the mount with the included rings and V-style dovetail plate, so use a mount with a Vixen-style saddle and a payload rating that covers it. A hard carrying case is included.
The Heliostar 100Ha comes with a full suite of accessories, including a 22mm 70° wide-angle eyepiece, a solar zenith prism and a solar guider.
The solar guider aims the telescope at the Sun without looking through it. A clip-on sun shade and a 2" to 1.25" adapter are also included.
H-alpha shows far more than a white-light filter: prominences on the limb, active sunspot regions, bright plage, surface granulation and snake-like plasma filaments.
No. Sky-Watcher's Solis etalon technology reaches a 0.5Å bandpass without a second etalon.

Use the included solar guider, which lets you aim at the Sun without looking through the telescope.
No. You must use the included diagonal: its 20mm blocking filter is part of the Heliostar's safety features, and the telescope must not be used with any other type of diagonal.
No. It is a dedicated hydrogen-alpha solar telescope.
