How much can it carry?
The Sky-Watcher Wave 100i is rated to carry a 10 kg (22 lb) payload without any counterweights. In equatorial mode, telescopes under this weight do not require R.A. balancing. For heavier setups, adding the optional 5 kg counterweight increases the capacity to 15 kg (33 lb), with the condition that the telescope's center of gravity is no more than 20 cm from the R.A. axis.
Can I use the Wave 100i for solar imaging with two telescopes?
Yes. Sky-Watcher fits the Wave 100i with a second saddle for solar imagers, eclipse chasers and outreach. In alt-az mode it carries up to 6 kg (13 lb), with up to 15 kg (33 lb) on the primary saddle.
How do I control the Sky-Watcher Wave 100i mount?
The SynScan Pro app is Sky-Watcher's recommended controller: Windows and Mac versions support USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; Android supports all three (USB needs an OTG dongle); iOS supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. An optional SynScan hand controller can be used, and the mount works with ASIAIR, Eagle and StellarMate.
Does it come with a case?
Yes, a foam-lined carry case. The Wave mounts stow in durable carry cases with dense, machine-cut foam, suited for travel. The head weighs 4.2 kg (9.3 lb).
What kind of power supply does the Wave 100i require?
The Wave 100i requires a regulated DC power supply providing 12V to 16V and rated for over 55 W. The power supply is not included. The connector must be a center-positive barrel plug with a 2.1 mm inner diameter and 5.5 mm outer diameter. Do not use unregulated AC-to-DC adapters.
Can it track satellites?
The 7.5° per second slew rate, with Sky-Watcher's downloadable Satellite Tracker application for Windows PC, lets the Wave track satellites and space stations.
Do I always need counterweights with the Wave 100i?
No. In equatorial mode, telescopes under 10 kg (22 lb) need no R.A. balancing; the optional 5 kg counterweight raises the limit to 15 kg (33 lb), with the telescope's center no more than 20 cm from the R.A. axis.
How do I polar align the Wave 100i without a polar scope?
Loosen the two latitude locking knobs, turn the latitude adjustment knob until the scale reads your latitude, and point the R.A. axis to the pole. Then polar align with the SynScan Pro app or hand controller after a 2-star alignment, repeating two or three times, or use an imaging-based tool such as SharpCap Pro or PHD2.
Can it return to a home position?
The SynScan Pro app can return the mount to the same home position (Utility, Advanced, Auto Home): a Dec offset of 0 returns to the polar-home position in equatorial mode, and -90 to the north-level position in alt-az mode.
How do I switch it to alt-az mode?
Turn the latitude adjustment knob until it stops and lock the mount upright. For two telescopes, fix the second saddle with the two M5 and two M6 screws supplied, fit the saddle cover, and align the two telescopes with the screws at the side of the primary saddle.
What do the different flashing lights on the Wave 100i power switch mean?
The LED on the power switch indicates the mount's status. A single flash with a short "on" time means the wireless module is ready. Double flashing means a wireless connection is established. A slow, single flash indicates low power voltage, and a quick single flash warns of extremely low voltage, meaning you should power down immediately.
What telescope dovetails fit the Wave 100i saddles?
The primary saddle on the Sky-Watcher Wave 100i is a D/V hybrid design. This means it can accept both narrow Vixen-style (V-style) and wider Losmandy-style (D-style) dovetail bars, specifically those between 43 mm and 73 mm in width.
