What is the purpose of this Starlight Instruments adapter for the Pentax 75mm SDHF?
This adapter's sole purpose is to allow you to replace the factory focuser on your Pentax 75mm SDHF APO Refractor with a high-precision Starlight Instruments 2.0" Feather Touch focuser. It provides the necessary 73mm x 0.75mm thread to securely attach the new focuser to the telescope's optical tube.
Why do I need this specific 73mm x 0.75mm adapter for my Pentax 75mm SDHF?
Telescope manufacturers use proprietary thread sizes on their optical tubes. This adapter is specifically machined to match the 73mm x 0.75mm thread of the Pentax 75mm SDHF, ensuring a perfect, secure fit. A generic adapter will not work.
Which Starlight Instruments focusers is this adapter compatible with?
This adapter is designed to work with Starlight Instruments' family of 2.0" focusers, specifically the Feather Touch Crayford FTF2025BCR. It is not compatible with their 2.5", 3.0", or larger focusers.
I want to upgrade my Pentax 75mm SDHF for astrophotography. Is this adapter the first step?
Yes. If you are upgrading to a Feather Touch focuser for imaging, this adapter is a required component. A high-quality focuser is critical for achieving sharp stars, and this adapter ensures the focuser is mounted rigidly to the telescope, preventing flexure that can ruin long exposures.
Will this adapter introduce any flexure when imaging with my Pentax 75mm SDHF?
No, quite the opposite. This adapter is designed to eliminate flexure. Its direct, threaded connection to both the telescope tube and the focuser creates a single, rigid unit that is far more stable than the original stock focuser or any adapter that relies on set screws.
Does this adapter fit any other telescopes besides the Pentax 75mm SDHF?
No, this adapter is specifically designed for the Pentax 75mm SDHF APO Refractor only. Its threading is machined for this telescope model.
