Which Starlight Instruments focuser is this 2.5" adapter for Meade 127mm telescopes designed for?
This adapter is made for the 2.5" Feather Touch focuser, specifically the FTF2535HD. It allows you to securely mount these larger, more robust focusers onto your Meade 127mm OTA.
How do I confirm this adapter will fit my Meade 127mm telescope?
The critical dimension is the outer diameter of your optical tube. This adapter is specifically made for Meade 127mm models that have a tube diameter of exactly 4.525 inches. Please measure your OTA before ordering to ensure compatibility.
Will this adapter improve my planetary imaging with a Meade 127mm on Jupiter?
While the adapter itself doesn't change the optics, it enables the use of a Feather Touch focuser. This eliminates image shift, allowing you to achieve and maintain critical focus on fine details like Jupiter's cloud bands or the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings, which is often impossible with a stock focuser.
Is installation of the Starlight Instruments 2.5" adapter difficult?
Installation typically involves removing the telescope's original focuser assembly and attaching this adapter to the rear cell, secured with 3 10-32 or M5 screws. The Feather Touch focuser then attaches to the adapter. While straightforward for most users, it requires careful handling of your optical tube.
I want to use a heavy camera and filter wheel on my Meade 127mm. Is this 2.5" adapter strong enough?
Yes. This adapter, when paired with a 2.5" Feather Touch rack and pinion focuser, creates an extremely rigid focusing system. It's designed to handle the weight of modern imaging trains without flexure, ensuring your camera, filter wheel, and any correctors remain perfectly orthogonal to the light path.
Does this adapter allow the focuser to rotate?
On the 2.5" focuser, the tube adapter connects the focuser to the telescope and allows 360-degree rotation. Rotation is not described for this unthreaded adapter, so confirm before ordering if rotation matters for your setup.
