Which Starlight Instruments focusers is this end cap compatible with?
This end cap is designed for use with Starlight Instruments' 3.0" Feather Touch focusers, including the FTF3015, FTF3025, and FTF3035 models. It is not compatible with their 2.0", 2.5", or 3.5" focusers.
Will this Starlight Instruments end cap work with correctors from other brands?
No. This end cap is machined with threads specifically to match Sky-Watcher correctors. Using it with other brands will likely result in an insecure fit or incorrect optical spacing. Starlight Instruments offers different end caps for other popular corrector models.
I'm upgrading my Sky-Watcher Esprit refractor with a 3.0" Feather Touch focuser. Is this the right part?
Only if your Sky-Watcher corrector takes a male M65x1 connection from the focuser side; this end cap is specified only as having male M65x1 threads for a Sky-Watcher corrector. Check your flattener's thread before ordering. It ensures a solid, repeatable connection for your imaging train.
Why use a threaded end cap instead of the standard 2" compression ring?
A threaded connection is significantly more rigid and secure, which is critical for astrophotography. It prevents any possibility of the optical train sagging or shifting during an exposure, which can cause elongated stars and ruin subframes. This is especially important with heavier cameras, filter wheels, and off-axis guiders.
Does installing this end cap require special tools?
No, installation is straightforward. The end cap screws into place at the end of the focuser drawtube. Most Starlight end caps also have three set screws on the face, adjusted with a 1/16 hex key, for collimation (tilt) adjustment.
