What software is compatible with the Focuser Boss II?
The Focuser Boss II is compatible with any ASCOM-compliant software on Windows, including Maxim DL, FocusMax, SG Pro and CCD Soft (through the ASCOM FocusAPI plug-in). Mac users can control it through TheSky X or Equinox. Any web browser can also control it through the hub's built-in web server over Ethernet or the optional 802.11 WiFi.
Can I control the Focuser Boss II without a computer?
Yes. The kit includes a T-shaped Hand Controller for direct manual focus adjustments at the telescope. Additionally, if you install the optional 802.11 WiFi module, you can connect to the Focuser Boss II from a smartphone or tablet and use the web interface to control the focuser without a dedicated PC.
How do I choose the right HSM motor for my 3.5" Feather Touch focuser?
For a 3.5" Feather Touch focuser, choose the HSM35 motor, which is made for any 3.5" Feather Touch focuser and for the Astro-Physics 3.5" and 4.0" with the Feather Touch pinion assembly upgrade. For heavier image trains, Starlight also offers the PDMS.
How does temperature compensation work on the Focuser Boss II?
Starlight's Handy Motors have a built-in thermistor, and the temperature sensor is used to compensate the focuser for changes in temperature. The compensation is set up in the Focuser Boss II software.
Can the Focuser Boss II control two focusers at once?
Yes. The standard Focuser Boss II hub controls one focuser. By installing the optional 2nd Focuser Control Board, you can control two Feather Touch focusers at the same time from the same hub. A second motor is needed if you do not already have one.
What power options are available for the Focuser Boss II in the field?
The Focuser Boss II requires 12VDC power. Starlight offers an AC/DC 12VDC power supply and a DC Cigarette Plug, which you can use with a 12V DC source.
What is the advantage of the Focuser Boss II ASCOM Local Server?
The ASCOM Local Server allows multiple software clients to connect to the focuser simultaneously. For example, your imaging program and FocusLynx Commander can both be connected to the hub at once. Settings changed through the ASCOM driver also affect FocusLynx Commander, and the other way round.
Can the Focuser Boss II be used for visual observing?
Yes. The included hand controller moves the focuser in or out with push buttons, so you can focus at the eyepiece without touching the focuser, and the WiFi option lets you use a phone instead. Not touching the focuser helps at high magnification, where a hand on the knob can shake the view.
I have a Celestron 8" SCT with a Feather Touch Micro Focuser. Which Focuser Boss II motor do I need?
For any Feather Touch Micro Focuser, including the one for the Celestron 8" SCT, choose the HSM20 motor, which is made for any Feather Touch Micro Focuser.
Can I manually focus my telescope with the HSM motor attached?

Is a wireless router required for the optional Focuser Boss II WiFi?
No. A wireless router is not required but is recommended, and apps are not needed for the WiFi function.
Does the Focuser Boss II work with focusers from other brands?
The Focuser Boss II runs Starlight's HSM and PDMS motors. The HSM fits Feather Touch focusers and Astro-Physics focusers with the Feather Touch pinion upgrade; for non Feather Touch focusers, Starlight offers the Posi Drive Motor System (PDMS) in versions for specific focusers.
