WandererCover V4 Pro-EC 380mm - Open Box
This open-box WandererCover V4 Pro-EC 380mm has never been used: its owner ordered the wrong size, which turned out too large for their telescope. It automates your flat frames and protects your optics on large-aperture telescopes, with a high-precision encoder for accurate positioning, a high-torque motor for quiet operation, and a redesigned wiring harness for reliable use. You get a brand-new panel at a lower price than a new one.
Encoder-Controlled Motor: Repeatable Positioning and Self-Locking Security
The key distinction of the Pro-EC model is its built-in encoder, which provides real-time feedback on the cover's position for highly accurate and repeatable opening and closing. The new high-torque motor operates quietly and is self-locking, ensuring the cover stays securely in place on large-aperture scopes, even when pointed at high angles. This combination removes any guesswork from your remote imaging sequence.
Banding-Free Flat Fields for Broadband and Narrowband Imaging
Achieving perfect calibration frames is critical, and the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC is engineered to eliminate common issues. A high dimming frequency gets rid of banding that can plague flat frames from other panels. With fine-grained brightness adjustment, you can dial in the perfect illumination for shooting flats with any filter, from standard LRGB to narrowband SHO.
Robust Mechanical Design for Truss Scopes and Cold Weather
Built for demanding field conditions, the V4 Pro-EC features a new wire harnessing scheme that protects power lines from damage during repeated use, even in the cold. For observers with truss-tube telescopes, the bottom of the motor box includes threaded mounting holes, simplifying custom installation and ensuring a secure fit on non-traditional optical tubes.
Unified ASCOM Driver: Simplified Control for Your Entire Imaging Rig
Wanderer Astro's new unified ASCOM driver streamlines device management. The driver automatically identifies the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC and can simultaneously manage multiple Wanderer Astro devices through a single, optimized interface. It supports both automatic and manual port selection, simplifying setup and letting you focus on imaging rather than configuration.
A Note on Open Box Condition
This WandererCover V4 Pro-EC 380mm is an open-box item that has never been used. It was ordered in the wrong size, too large for its owner's telescope, and is offered in its original box. Before ordering, measure the outer diameter of your tube or dew shield: the 380mm panel fits telescopes slightly under 380mm in diameter. It is covered by the full Wanderer Astro 2-year warranty. Only one unit is available.
What is the main advantage of the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC model?
The primary advantage is the built-in encoder (EC). This provides real-time, high-accuracy positional feedback, ensuring the cover opens and closes to the exact same spot every time. This is critical for automated and remote observatories where precision and reliability are paramount.
How does the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC prevent banding in flat frames?
The V4 Pro-EC uses a high-frequency dimming mechanism for its illumination panel. This high frequency prevents the rolling-shutter effect on CMOS sensors from capturing brightness variations during the exposure, resulting in smooth, banding-free flat frames that calibrate your images correctly.
Can I use the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC with my truss-tube Dobsonian for imaging?
Yes, it's designed with truss-tube scopes in mind. The motor box has built-in M3 and M4 threaded holes on the bottom, allowing you to create a custom bracket to mount it securely to your upper tube assembly or another part of your telescope's structure.
I have other Wanderer Astro gear. How does the ASCOM driver for the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC work with them?
The WandererCover V4 Pro-EC uses a new All-in-One ASCOM driver. This single driver can automatically detect and connect to multiple Wanderer Astro devices simultaneously. This simplifies your setup by reducing the number of drivers you need to install and manage, providing control over your entire Wanderer ecosystem from one interface.
Is the WandererCover V4 Pro-EC suitable for narrowband imaging on a target like the Cygnus Loop (NGC 6960)?
Absolutely. The fine-grained brightness control allows you to significantly dim the panel, which is necessary for acquiring the longer exposures required for narrowband flat frames. You can achieve the ideal ADU target for your camera without saturating the sensor, making it perfect for SHO imaging of targets like the Cygnus Loop.
