  • William Optics Fluorostar 132 APO Refractor

The William Optics Fluorostar 132 is a 132mm, 910mm, f/6.9 apochromatic refractor with a triplet air-spaced objective, STM coatings and FPL-53 glass, which William Optics designed for both deep-sky astrophotography and detailed planetary observations. William Optics' current model has a 3.7-inch rack-and-pinion focuser rotatable by 360 degrees.

FPL-53 Air-Spaced Triplet with STM Coatings

It has a triplet air-spaced objective with STM coatings and FPL-53 glass, delivering sharp, color-corrected views.

A 132mm objective has a Dawes limit of about 0.88 arcseconds.

    132mm at f/6.9

At 910mm a full-frame sensor covers about 2.3 x 1.5 degrees and APS-C (about 23.5 x 15.6mm) about 1.5 x 1.0 degrees. That scale suits galaxies, planetary nebulae and the brighter parts of nebulae; very large targets need a mosaic or a reducer.

    Focuser Versions on This Page

William Optics' current page and price list describe a 3.7-inch rack-and-pinion focuser, rotatable by 360 degrees for precise focusing. The grey version on this page is that 3.7-inch model. The red and gold versions are listed with a 3.3-inch rack-and-pinion or a 3.5-inch Feather Touch focuser.

William Optics does not publish payload or travel figures for these focusers, so we do not.

Flatteners and Reducers William Optics Names

The FLT132 is compatible with field flatteners and reducers such as the P-FLAT68III, P-Flat7A and P-Flat8. None is included. Ask us which one suits your camera and the back focus it needs.

    Build

The tube is CNC-machined aluminium, and it comes with a high-quality soft carrying case. It is available in red, gold and grey.

    Visual Use and Solar Safety

Its uses include detailed planetary observation. At 910mm, a 25mm eyepiece gives about 36x and a 7mm about 130x; how much you see depends on the seeing.

Never aim the telescope or finder at the Sun without proper solar filters installed on the front of the telescope; doing so for even a moment may permanently damage your vision. Solar eyepiece filters are not considered safe.

  • How does the Fluorostar 132 suit Jupiter?

William Optics designed it for detailed planetary observations as well as deep-sky imaging. At 910mm a 7mm eyepiece gives about 130x.

Can the FLT132 image the Andromeda Galaxy (M31)?

M31 spans about 3 degrees, more than the 2.3 x 1.5 degree full-frame field at 910mm, so it needs a mosaic or a reducer. Its core and companions fit individually.

What is the Fluorostar 132's objective?

A triplet air-spaced objective with STM coatings and FPL-53 glass.

Which focuser does the Fluorostar 132 have?

William Optics' current model has a 3.7-inch rack-and-pinion focuser rotatable by 360 degrees; that is the grey version here. The red and gold versions are listed with a 3.3-inch rack-and-pinion or a 3.5-inch Feather Touch focuser.

Which field flatteners suit the FLT132?

The matching options are the P-FLAT68III, P-Flat7A and P-Flat8. None is included.

Does the Fluorostar 132 include a case?

William Optics' page says it comes with a high-quality soft carrying case.

What mount does the Fluorostar 132 need?

William Optics' current material gives no weight for this model. Ask us for the weight with your configuration before choosing a mount.

Can I use the FLT132 for solar observing?

Only with proper solar filters installed on the front of the telescope. Never aim the telescope or finder at the Sun without proper solar filters installed on the front of the telescope; doing so for even a moment may permanently damage your vision. Solar eyepiece filters are not considered safe.

What is the 360-degree focuser rotation for?

Turning the camera to frame your target; the 3.7-inch focuser is rotatable by 360 degrees.
