  • DwarfLab DWARF 3 Smart Telescope

The DwarfLab DWARF 3 Smart Telescope integrates a 35mm apochromatic telephoto optical system with an 8 MP Sony IMX678 sensor to deliver a complete, portable astrophotography solution. Its dual-camera design combines a 737mm equivalent telephoto lens for deep-sky objects with a 45mm equivalent wide-angle lens for framing, all controlled through the DWARFLAB app on your iOS or Android device. With three built-in filters, a 10000 mAh battery, 128 GB of internal storage, and automated GoTo, tracking, and stacking, the DWARF 3 is engineered to capture everything from distant nebulae to the Sun with its included solar filter, all in a package weighing just 1350 g.

    A 6-Element, 35mm Apochromatic Optical System

The DWARF 3's telephoto lens uses a 6-element apochromatic lens group with multiple ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses, which reduce chromatic aberration and enhance sharpness. The 35mm aperture and 150mm focal length give a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 737mm, with single exposures of up to 60 seconds in Equatorial Mode.

A secondary wide-angle camera with a 3.4mm aperture offers a 45mm equivalent focal length. Its 50.6° diagonal field makes it easier to spot targets quickly, and DwarfLab pairs the two cameras so the telephoto lens can take over once a target is selected.

Dual Sony Sensors: 8 MP IMX678 and 2 MP IMX307

At the core of the telephoto system is the Sony IMX678 Starvis 2 sensor, a high-sensitivity, low-noise 1/1.8" chip. It delivers a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 (8 MP) with 2 µm pixels, and 2x2 binning gives 4 µm effective pixels.

The wide-angle camera employs a 1/2.8" Sony IMX307 sensor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (2 MP). Select a target in the DWARFLAB app's star chart and the DWARF 3 automatically locates and tracks it.

3 Integrated Filters: VIS, Astro, and Hα/OIII Dual-Band

The DWARF 3 telephoto camera has three built-in filters, switchable from the DWARFLAB app. This allows you to adapt your imaging strategy to the target and local sky conditions without any external accessories.

    • VIS Filter (440-640 nm): DwarfLab's standard filter for daytime and regular shooting; it blocks infrared light for natural colors.
    • Astro Filter (440-670 nm): A broadband filter suitable for deep space and low-light environments.
    • Dual-Band Filter (OIII & Hα): This narrowband filter isolates two key emission lines: Oxygen-III at 500.7 nm (30 nm FWHM) and Hydrogen-alpha at 656.3 nm (15 nm FWHM). It significantly reduces the impact of urban light pollution and enhances the contrast and detail of emission nebulae.

A 3.38° Diagonal Field of View with 2x2 Astro Mosaic

A single 3.38° diagonal telephoto field can cover the entirety of most deep-sky objects.

For larger targets, the Astro Mosaic function uses a 2x2 stitching mode to expand the shooting area of a single frame to four times its original size. You can rotate and zoom to compose freely.

Automated Imaging with GoTo, Live Stacking, and 60s Exposures

The DWARF 3 streamlines the entire astrophotography process. After a quick setup, you select a target from the built-in star chart in the DWARFLAB app, and the telescope automatically locates and tracks it.

It captures a series of sub-exposures, up to 60 seconds each in Equatorial Mode, and the built-in stacking combines them into a cleaner image. Equatorial Mode also eliminates field rotation; the DWARF 3 has no field derotation of its own.

Scheduled Shooting and Multi-Night Stacking for Unattended Sessions

For advanced projects, the DWARF 3 supports fully automated and unattended operation. Using the Scheduled Shooting feature, you can plan an entire imaging session in advance, setting the target and exposure parameters. The DWARF 3 automatically starts shooting at the scheduled time, so you do not need to stay up all night.

The system also supports multi-night stacking. You can combine data captured across several different nights on the same target to increase the total integration time. This enhances clarity and reduces noise. The DWARF 3 can even continue an imaging sequence if the app is closed or the connection is lost, letting you reconnect later to check progress.

    Stellar Studio: In-App Post-Processing with 1-Click Optimization

The DWARFLAB app includes a built-in processing suite called Stellar Studio, allowing you to go from raw data to a finished image directly on your phone or tablet. For beginners, a one-click optimization tool automatically adjusts the image for a great-looking result. More advanced users can take manual control over individual processing steps.

    • Processing Tools: Adjustments include noise cancellation, star correction to refine star shapes, and even star removal to isolate and enhance nebulosity.
    • Flexible Output: You can save JPG or PNG for sharing, or FITS and TIFF for post-processing in your own software. Stellar Studio needs an internet connection.

Beyond Deep Sky: Solar, Lunar, and Daytime Imaging

The DWARF 3 is a multi-purpose imaging tool. With the included magnetic ND solar filter attached, DwarfLab offers one-click sun lock and stable tracking, with sunspots clearly visible. It also tracks the Moon steadily so you can record each phase.

Its capabilities extend to wide-field astrophotography, with dedicated modes for capturing the Milky Way and creating star trail images and videos. During the day, it works for bird watching: after identifying the target, the DWARF 3 locks on and tracks it, and AF-C continuous autofocus follows moving subjects. Its panorama mode stitches telephoto burst shots into one wide image; DwarfLab does the stitching in the cloud.

5.5 Hours of Imaging with a 10000 mAh Battery and 128 GB Storage

Engineered for portability and field use, the DWARF 3 is powered by a built-in 10000 mAh battery. DwarfLab's measured average at room temperature is up to 5.5 hours of astrophotography. Power input is USB-C, and the battery supports external USB charging.

All images and data are saved to the 128 GB of built-in eMMC storage. Connectivity is handled via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with a range of up to 20 meters, and NFC one-touch connection speeds up pairing. The telescope mounts to any standard photo tripod via a 1/4" thread.

IP54 Rated and 1350g: Your Go-Anywhere Smart Telescope

Weighing 1350 g and measuring 222 x 142 x 65 mm, the DWARF 3 is easy to take along for travel, camping or weekend outings, and it ships with a storage bag. An IP54 rating provides protection against dust and dew, giving you peace of mind when imaging outdoors in changing conditions.

The entire system is self-contained, requiring only your smartphone and a tripod for a complete imaging setup. DwarfLab's spec table gives an operating temperature of -10 to 45°C.

DWARF 3 vs. DWARF mini: Aperture, Resolution, and NPU

While both are highly portable smart telescopes, the DWARF 3 offers significant hardware upgrades over its sibling, the DWARF mini. The DWARF 3 has the larger aperture, the higher resolution sensor and the faster NPU.

    • Aperture and Optics: The DWARF 3 features a 35mm aperture compared to the DWARF mini's 30mm, giving it over 36% more light-gathering area.
    • Sensor and Resolution: The DWARF 3 uses an 8 MP Sony IMX678 sensor, capturing four times the resolution of the DWARF mini's 2 MP IMX662.
    • Processing Power: With a 5 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit), the DWARF 3 has five times the processing power of the DWARF mini's 1 TOPS NPU.
    • Storage: The DWARF 3 includes 128 GB of internal storage, double the 64 GB found in the DWARF mini.
  • How does the DWARF 3's dual-band filter help under city skies?

The dual-band filter (O III 500.7 nm and H-alpha 656.3 nm) significantly reduces the impact of urban light pollution and enhances the contrast and detail of emission nebulae.

What if my target is larger than one frame?

Use Astro Mosaic. Its 2x2 stitching mode expands the shooting area of a single 3.38° diagonal frame to four times its original size, and you can rotate and zoom to compose.

What does the Equatorial Mode on the DWARF 3 do?

Equatorial Mode gives more precise celestial tracking and eliminates field rotation. It is the mode for the longest exposures: 60 seconds telephoto and 90 seconds wide-angle. Use a tripod with Equatorial Mode.

Is the DWARF 3 suitable for viewing planets like Jupiter and Saturn?

DWARF devices are not primarily designed for planetary observation, but under suitable conditions they can show basic planetary details such as Jupiter's moons and Saturn's rings.
