Kowa TP-58FT 58mm Objective Lens Protection Filter
The Kowa TP-58FT is a 58mm objective lens protection filter designed as an essential shield for Kowa's TSN-55 and TSN-550 PROMINAR spotting scopes. It threads directly onto the scope's body to protect the valuable pure fluorite crystal objective lens from physical harm while its oil and water repellent coatings maintain a clear sight picture in challenging environments.
A 58mm Shield for Your PROMINAR Fluorite Crystal Lens
The most critical and expensive component of your Kowa PROMINAR scope is its pure fluorite crystal objective lens. Environmental hazards like blowing sand, salt spray at the coast, or an accidental impact can cause irreparable damage to the lens and its delicate coatings. Damage of this kind is not a defect in materials or workmanship, so it is not covered by warranty, and often the only option is to replace the front objective lens at great cost.
The TP-58FT filter sits in front of the objective lens, so sand, salt and accidental contact reach the filter first. Because all Kowa spotting scopes feature a filter ring, adding this layer of protection is simple and, per Kowa, drastically reduces the risk of objective lens damage, prolonging the life and optical performance of your investment.

What is the primary purpose of the Kowa TP-58FT filter?
The Kowa TP-58FT is a protection filter. Its purpose is to shield the front objective lens of the TSN-55 and TSN-550 from physical damage such as scratches, sand and salt spray, which can be very costly to repair.
Which Kowa spotting scopes is the TP-58FT filter compatible with?
The TP-58FT filter is specifically designed for the 58 mm filter threads on the Kowa TSN-55 PROMINAR and Kowa TSN-550 PROMINAR spotting scopes. Kowa lists it only for these two scopes.
Will the Kowa TP-58FT filter fit my Kowa TSN-88 or TSN-99 scope?
No. The TP-58FT has a 58 mm thread and will not fit the larger objective lenses of the TSN-88 or TSN-99 series. You would need the TP-95FT for the TSN-88 or the TP-105FT for the TSN-99 PROMINAR scopes.
How do the coatings on the Kowa TP-58FT help during birdwatching at the coast?
The oil and water repellent coatings help at the coast. The filter takes the salt spray in place of the objective lens, and its repellent surface makes it easier to wipe clean.
Does the Kowa warranty cover a scratched objective lens if I don't use a protection filter?
No. The Kowa Limited Lifetime Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Accidental damage such as a scratched or chipped objective lens is not a defect, and damage from abuse or misuse voids the warranty. Kowa recommends a protective filter such as the TP-58FT to reduce the risk of this kind of damage.
