Player One M54M-M42M Adapter - 2mm
- Connects Player One Filter Drawer MAX to Ares & Uranus Cameras
- Provides 2mm of Optical Path Length
- Thread Type 1: M54x0.75 Male
- Thread Type 2: M42x0.75 Male
The Player One M54M-M42M 2MM Adapter provides a critical 2mm of optical spacing, converting an M54x0.75 male thread to an M42x0.75 male thread. This adapter is specifically engineered to connect the Player One Filter Drawer MAX to the Ares and Uranus series of cooled cameras, ensuring precise back focus and a secure, threaded connection throughout your imaging train.
This adapter supplies exactly 2mm of spacing, a crucial measurement for achieving the standard 55mm back focus distance required by most flatteners and reducers. When used with the Player One Filter Drawer MAX, this adapter completes the optical train, placing your camera's sensor at the optimal focal plane for sharp, coma-free stars across the entire field.
Featuring an M54x0.75 male thread on one side and a standard M42x0.75 T-thread (male) on the other, this component ensures seamless integration. It is designed to connect directly between the M54 female port on the Filter Drawer MAX and the M42 female threads found on Player One's Ares, Uranus, and other planetary cameras.
The primary purpose of the M54M-M42M 2MM Adapter is to securely connect a Player One Filter Drawer MAX to a Player One Ares or Uranus cooled camera. It serves two functions: adapting the M54 thread to an M42 thread and providing a precise 2mm of spacing to achieve correct back focus.
This adapter is specifically designed for Player One cameras that use a standard M42x0.75 female thread for connection. This includes the Ares series and Uranus series of cooled astronomy cameras, as well as many of their planetary cameras.
The adapter has two male threads:
The 2mm thickness is a critical part of the back focus calculation. When building an imaging train with a filter drawer and a camera, every component's thickness must be accounted for to reach the 55mm standard required by most field flatteners and focal reducers. This adapter provides the final, precise 2mm needed in the Player One ecosystem.
You would thread the M54 male side of the adapter into the female M54 port on the camera-side of the Filter Drawer MAX. Then, you would thread the M42 male side of the adapter into the female M42 T-threads on the front of your Uranus-C camera body. This creates a solid, light-tight connection with the correct spacing.
Potentially, but compatibility is not guaranteed. The adapter uses industry-standard M54x0.75 and M42x0.75 threads. If your non-Player One filter wheel and ZWO camera have the corresponding female threads and your back focus calculation requires exactly 2mm of additional spacing, it may work. However, it is designed and tested for the Player One ecosystem.
