Is a single set screw good enough?

For visual use with a light tube, generally yes. For imaging with a heavy train, a face-clamping design is markedly more secure and removes a common source of small unexplained shifts.

Why is my dovetail marked?

A knife-edge or point-contact screw concentrates all the clamping force in one place. A flat-jaw clamp matched to the dovetail angle spreads the load and does not mark the bar.

Can I upgrade the clamp on my mount?

Do I need a safety stop?
