Secure Threaded Connection for Imaging

Unlike a standard 2-inch nosepiece that uses set screws and can introduce slight alignment errors, the RAD-1074 threads directly into the next component in your imaging system. This creates a single, rigid column from the focuser to your camera. For imagers, this is critical because it prevents the sag and tilt that can ruin long exposures by causing elongated stars in the corners of the frame.

This solid connection ensures that once you achieve perfect focus and framing, it stays that way throughout your imaging session. It is the bedrock on which the entire Tele Vue imaging system is built, providing the mechanical stability necessary for capturing sharp, high-resolution data from edge to edge.

Standard 2-inch Focuser Interface

The telescope side of the adapter is a standard 2-inch barrel, designed for a precise fit into the drawtube of any Tele Vue 2-inch focuser, as well as most other focusers that accept 2-inch accessories. The barrel is machined from high-grade aluminum with a smooth, anodized finish that minimizes wear on your focuser's compression ring. This universal fit makes it the primary connection point for beginning your Tele Vue imaging setup on a wide range of telescopes.

Maximized Contrast with Anti-Reflection Control

Imaging faint objects requires meticulous control of stray light. The interior of the RAD-1074 is fully blackened and features anti-reflection threads. These machined baffles trap off-axis light that enters the adapter, preventing it from reflecting off internal surfaces and reaching the camera sensor. The result is a darker background sky in your images, higher contrast on faint nebulosity, and the preservation of delicate detail that might otherwise be washed out.

Integrated 48mm Filter Threads

At the front of the nosepiece barrel, you will find standard 48mm female threads. This allows you to mount any 2-inch astronomy filter, such as a light pollution, nebula, or luminance filter, at the very front of your imaging train. Placing the filter here is often ideal as it protects the entire optical train from dust and can help minimize reflections that sometimes occur when filters are placed closer to the sensor.

One trade-off of this design is that it is intended for a dedicated imaging setup. Because it is threaded, it is not a quick-change part for switching between visual observing and imaging. For observers who frequently swap eyepieces and cameras, a standard slip-fit adapter might offer more convenience, though at the cost of mechanical rigidity.
