  • Celestron Dew Heater Ring - 11"

The Celestron Dew Heater Ring for 11" telescopes provides a permanent, highly efficient dew prevention solution, delivering up to 30 watts of power directly to your corrector lens. Constructed from lightweight aluminum weighing just 4.69 oz, it replaces the factory retaining ring on your 11" Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, or RASA optical tube. Power is supplied through a standard 12V DC barrel connector, and an integrated thermistor with a 2.5mm audio jack enables intelligent power management when paired with a Celestron SmartHeat Dew Controller.

Direct Corrector Heating: An Efficient 30-Watt Dew Solution

This ring's core advantage is its method of heat transfer. Unlike traditional heater strips that warm the telescope's metal cell and hope the heat radiates inward, the aluminum Dew Heater Ring is in direct contact with the corrector glass. This provides the most efficient heating possible, applying its 30 watts of power exactly where needed to keep your optics clear all night.

12V DC Power with Smart Control Integration

The system runs on a common 12V DC input using a 5.5mm/2.1mm barrel connector, making it compatible with most field power supplies. For maximum power efficiency, the ring features a built-in thermistor that connects to Celestron's SmartHeat Dew Controllers via a 2.5mm audio jack. This allows the controller to monitor the exact temperature of the glass and apply only the necessary power, dramatically extending battery life.

Permanent Fit for 11" Celestron SCT, EdgeHD, and RASA OTAs

Designed as a true integrated accessory, the Dew Heater Ring replaces the plastic retaining ring on Celestron 11" optical tubes manufactured in 2006 or later. With an inner diameter of 279.4mm (11"), it provides a secure, permanent fit so you never have to worry about forgetting your dew heater. The rigid aluminum frame supports both the heating circuits and the corrector lens itself.

Integrated Cable Management for Tangle-Free Operation

To prevent cable snags and dangling wires, the ring incorporates several thoughtful features. Two storage clips hold the power and thermistor jacks securely when not in use, allowing the dust cover to fit perfectly. A separate cable management clip attaches to the front cell, routing the power and thermistor cables neatly away from the optical path to prevent unwanted tugs on the connections.

Celestron Dew Heater Ring vs. Traditional Heater Bands

The primary difference lies in efficiency and integration. A traditional band wraps around the outside of the optical tube's front cell, wasting energy heating the metal housing first. The Celestron Dew Heater Ring heats the corrector glass directly for a faster response and lower power consumption.

    • Heating Method: The Ring offers direct glass heating, while bands use indirect cell heating. This makes the Ring more effective in heavy dew.
    • Integration: The Ring is a permanent, "set-and-forget" installation. Bands are temporary and must be wrapped around the telescope for each session, risking uneven placement or slipping.
    • Smart Control: The Ring's integrated thermistor provides precise temperature data for smart controllers, a feature absent in most basic heater bands.
  • Will the Celestron Dew Heater Ring fit my non-Celestron 11" SCT?

This ring is specifically designed to replace the corrector plate retaining ring on Celestron 11" Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, and RASA telescopes made in 2006 or later. It is not designed for compatibility with telescopes from other manufacturers.

How much power does the 11" Dew Heater Ring actually use?

The ring has a maximum power draw of 30 watts when operating at 100%. However, when used with a Celestron SmartHeat Dew Controller, its actual consumption is often much lower. The controller uses the ring's thermistor to apply just enough power to stay above the dew point, significantly saving battery power.

Can I use the Celestron Dew Heater Ring with a third-party dew controller?

Yes, you can power the heater element with a third-party controller. The included 6" power jack extension cable adapts the 5.5mm/2.1mm barrel connector to a male RCA plug, which is common on many controllers. However, the integrated thermistor's 2.5mm jack is only compatible with Celestron SmartHeat Dew Controllers.

Is installing the 11" Dew Heater Ring difficult?

The process is straightforward and involves unscrewing the existing plastic retaining ring and screwing on the Dew Heater Ring in its place. Celestron provides a paper installation shield and detailed manual instructions to make the process quick and safe for your corrector lens.

Do I still need a dew shield with the Celestron Dew Heater Ring on my 11" EdgeHD?

While not mandatory, using a dew shield is highly recommended. A dew shield reduces the rate at which the corrector lens radiates heat into the night sky. This reduces the overall power required by the heater ring to keep the optics clear, further improving the power efficiency of your entire imaging setup.

Will the 4.69 oz weight of the ring affect my telescope's balance?

The 4.69 oz (133.0 g) weight is very minimal and replaces the weight of the original plastic retaining ring. For an 11" class optical tube, this small change in weight at the very front of the scope will have a negligible effect on balance and is easily compensated for by slightly adjusting the OTA's position on the dovetail bar.
