  • ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate

The ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate adds just 5 mm of optical thickness to correct field curvature and tilt for telescopes with M48 threads. It is engineered for direct connection to ZWO's APS-C and full-frame cameras, including the ASI2600, ASI6200, and ASI2400 series.

Eliminating Corner Elongation with 5 mm of Adjustment

Even with a high-quality flattener, minor misalignments in your focuser drawtube or camera adapters can leave you with elongated stars in the corners of your frame. This 5 mm thick plate provides the mechanical interface needed to precisely square your camera sensor to the telescope's focal plane. By making fine adjustments, you can eliminate this tilt, ensuring your images have uniformly sharp stars from edge to edge.

    M48 Threading for ZWO APS-C & Full-Frame Cameras

Designed with large sensors in mind, the ZWO Sensor Tilt Plate uses the M48 x 0.75 standard to prevent vignetting on cameras like the full-frame ASI6200 or ASI2400. The plate features screw holes that match the pattern for these cameras and the APS-C ASI2600, allowing for a secure, direct attachment between your camera and an Off-Axis Guider (OAG) or filter wheel. This creates a rigid imaging train with the critical ability to perfect your sensor alignment.

  • What is the primary function of the ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate?

The ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate is designed to correct for sensor tilt. This is a condition where the camera sensor is not perfectly perpendicular to the telescope's light path, resulting in out-of-focus or elongated stars in one or more corners of an image, even when the center is perfectly focused.

How much back focus does the M48 Sensor Tilt Plate use?

The plate has an optical thickness of 5 mm. You must account for this 5 mm in your total back focus calculation for your specific flattener or reducer.

Is the ZWO M48 plate compatible with cameras other than the ASI2600, ASI6200, or ASI2400?

While the screw hole pattern is specifically designed for the ZWO ASI2600, ASI6200, and ASI2400 series cameras, the plate uses standard M48 threads. It can potentially be used in any M48 imaging train that needs tilt correction, but mechanical connection to other camera brands is not guaranteed without additional adapters.

How do I adjust the ZWO M48 plate to fix elongated stars in my ASI2600MC Pro images?

First, use an image analysis tool (like the Aberration Inspector in N.I.N.A. or ASTAP) to determine the direction and magnitude of the tilt from a test exposure. This will show you which corner(s) are problematic. Then, make very small, iterative adjustments to the plate between short test exposures, re-analyzing each new image until the star shapes are uniform across the entire frame.

In an imaging train with an ASI6200MM Pro and an OAG, where should the ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate be installed?

The tilt plate should always be placed as close to the camera sensor as possible to be most effective. The correct order would be: Telescope/Flattener → OAG → ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate → ASI6200MM Pro Camera.

If my stars are already round across the field, do I need the ZWO M48 Sensor Tilt Plate?

No. A sensor tilt plate is a corrective tool. If your optical train is already well-collimated and aligned, resulting in sharp stars across the entire field, you do not need to add one.
