The TS optics 0.5x reducer shortens the focal lengths of the telescope by 50% and doubles the lens speed and field of view. This advantage can be used visual and phototgraphical with cameras with smaller sensors.

Due to the doubled lens speed, the exposue time is reduced even to a quarter!

The adaptation:

Just thread the reducer into the 1.25" filter receptacle of your foto adapter or eyepiece. The reducer has a suitable thread.

Photographical use:

This is the main use for the 0.5x reducer. It doubles the field of view and alters the photographic speed of your telescope accordingly. It can illuminate a field of approx. 12 mm diameter.

Especially at cameras with smaller sensors up to ca. 13 mm this effect is wanted when photographing bigger fields.

Examples:

ATIK - cooled CCD cameras
Mintron - sensitive video cameras
Webcams (especially Philips)

For visual use:

This is also possible. But nevertheless, in this realm the reducer is not as versatile as in photography.

It is only useful with 1.25" eyepieces with max. 25 mm focal length; using bigger eyepieces will cause vignetting.

When the reducer is screwed into the eyepiece filter thread, the focal point moves approx. 5 mm intrafocal.
