Will the Celestron Basic Smartphone Adapter fit my 1.25" and 2" telescope eyepieces?
It is designed for eyepieces with an outer diameter between 29mm and 45mm. This covers most 1.25" eyepieces. However, it is generally not compatible with 2" eyepieces, as their outer housings are typically much larger than 45mm.
Can this adapter hold a large phone like an iPhone Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy Ultra?
Yes. The phone clamp has a range of 56mm to 97mm (2.20" – 3.81"). Most large flagship phones fall within this range, but you should measure your phone's width (with its case, if you intend to use one) to confirm it will fit.
Do I need to remove my phone case to use the Celestron Basic Smartphone Adapter?
It depends on the case. While the adapter can accommodate many standard cases, very large or bulky ones (especially folio-style cases that cover the screen) may prevent the phone from fitting securely in the clamp and should be removed before use.
Is it difficult to align my phone's camera with the eyepiece?
Alignment is a manual process. The simplest method is to turn on your phone's camera, hold the phone in the clamp over the eyepiece, and move it until you see the circular image from the eyepiece centered on your screen. Once you find the spot, tighten the clamp onto the eyepiece.
Can I use this adapter for imaging the Sun through my telescope?
Absolutely not, unless you have a proper, full-aperture solar filter designed specifically for your telescope installed over the front of the optic. Never look at the Sun or point an unfiltered optic at the Sun. Doing so can cause permanent damage to your eyes, your camera, and your telescope.
What kind of optics is the Celestron Basic Smartphone Adapter compatible with?
This adapter is compatible with a wide range of instruments, including most telescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, monoculars, and microscopes, as long as their eyepiece has an outer diameter between 29mm and 45mm. It is not designed for use with riflescopes.
