Services
Equipment that is misconfigured performs like equipment that is broken, and equipment that is broken does not have to mean a cross-border return. David Astro provides collimation, cleaning, repair, diagnostics and system setup in-house, in Canada, on the brands we carry. The service options we offer are listed here.
If you are not sure whether you need a service or just a conversation, ask us first. A lot of what looks like a fault turns out to be spacing, balance or a driver setting, and that costs nothing to identify.

View full detailsWhat We Can Do Here
Our workshop handles the things that otherwise require shipping equipment abroad or replacing it.
- Collimation: Newtonian, Schmidt-Cassegrain and refractor alignment done properly with the right tools, including star testing to confirm.
- Optical cleaning: Professional cleaning of objectives, correctors and mirrors, which is safer done here than attempted with the wrong materials.
- Mount service and diagnostics: Worm mesh adjustment, backlash setting, electronics testing and lubrication appropriate to Canadian temperatures.
- Camera diagnostics: Cooling performance testing, sensor inspection and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Imaging train configuration: Back-focus calculation, tilt correction and star shape diagnosis, so your corners are round before you spend another night on them.
- Warranty handling: As an authorized dealer we process warranty claims domestically, which avoids international shipping and customs paperwork.
Why Choose David Astro for Service
The advantage of domestic service is not only cost. It is the weeks you do not lose.
- Work done in Canada: Equipment does not cross a border for diagnosis or repair, which removes customs delays and the risk of transit damage on a precision instrument.
- Diagnosis before repair: We identify the actual problem first. Frequently it is configuration rather than hardware, and that conversation is free.
- Experience with the equipment: Our team uses these instruments, so a described symptom usually maps onto something we have seen ourselves.
- Parts access: As an authorized dealer we can obtain service parts that are not publicly listed.
- Support for equipment bought elsewhere: We take in equipment regardless of where it was purchased. Tell us the model and the symptom and we will say whether it is something we can work on.
Service in Canada — Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I know if I need service or just advice?
- Describe the symptom to us first. A large proportion of apparent faults are spacing, balance, power or driver issues, and identifying that costs nothing and saves shipping equipment unnecessarily.
- Do you handle warranty repairs?
- Yes, for the brands we are authorized for. Warranty claims are processed domestically, so nothing has to be shipped internationally or cleared through customs.
- How long does service take?
- It depends on the work and on parts availability. Diagnostics are usually quick; repairs requiring a manufacturer part depend on that part's lead time, and we will tell you upfront.
- Can you help remotely?
- Often, yes. Send us your imaging train details, a sample frame or a guiding log and we can diagnose a great many problems without you shipping anything at all.
- Do you service equipment I did not buy from you?
- Yes. We take in equipment regardless of where it was purchased. Warranty claims are limited to the brands we are authorized for, but diagnostics, repair, collimation and cleaning are open to anyone.
Something not working right?
