Most equipment damage in astronomy happens in transit and in storage, not on the sky. A telescope that survives a season of tailgate transport without a case will eventually lose collimation or gain a scratch, and a tube left uncovered outdoors collects moisture that takes far longer to clear than it took to form. Do I need a hard case or is soft enough?

Can I leave my telescope outside under a cover?

How do I stop fungus on my optics?
