David Astro Cheshire - Short Style
- 1.25" barrel
- Compact short style
- Passive tool, no batteries
- For Newtonian reflectors
The David Astro Cheshire - Short Style is a compact collimation eyepiece for Newtonian reflectors with a 1.25" barrel. A peep hole and an angled reflective face lit by ambient light let you align the primary mirror by eye.
A Cheshire needs no power and has no laser to align. Light falling on its angled face is reflected down the tube, so you can see the primary mirror's centre mark and centre it by adjusting the primary mirror screws.
Collimating a Newtonian reflector, mainly aligning the primary mirror.
No. A Cheshire is a passive tool lit by ambient light.
It has a 1.25" barrel, so it fits 1.25" focusers, and 2" focusers with a 2" to 1.25" adapter.
Insert the Cheshire in the focuser and look through the peep hole. Centre the secondary mirror under the focuser, then adjust the primary mirror screws until the reflection of the primary's centre mark sits centred on the Cheshire's reflective face.
Both align the primary mirror. The short style is more compact; the David Astro Cheshire - Long Style adds a longer sight tube that helps with secondary mirror placement.
