Calculate step sizeThe PrimaLuceLab ESATTO 2" LP robotic focuser fits a motorized focuser into a 32mm body, for telescopes with limited back-focus such as the Celestron EdgeHD 8". It supports a 5kg imaging payload with a 50.9mm free aperture, all while weighing only 730g. With 10mm of precise travel and a resolution of 0.03 microns per step, it is controlled remotely via USB-C or WiFi.
The ESATTO 2" LP is designed for telescopes with low back focus. PrimaLuceLab's example is the Celestron EdgeHD 8": the optional 0.7x reducer reduces its back focus from 133mm to 105mm.
Even with the reducer there is still a lot of space for the camera and accessories, also with the ARCO 2" rotator.
The defining feature of the ESATTO 2" LP is its minimal physical thickness of just 32mm. On a Celestron EdgeHD 8" with the optional 0.7x reducer, back focus drops to 105mm, and the 32mm LP still leaves a lot of space for camera and accessories.
It uses a special low profile design for load capacity and precision; the Crayford-style design belongs to the ESATTO 2", 3" and 4" (not LP). On an EdgeHD 8" it connects without touching the primary mirror lock knobs and the manual focus knob.
The ESATTO 2" LP has a resolution of 0.03 microns per step.
It weighs 730g and carries up to 5kg of imaging accessories.
The ESATTO 2" LP provides a 50.9mm free aperture.
Its travel is 10mm. With a short travel, the manual's approach is to set the back focus distance (with spacers or extensions) so the focus position falls within the focuser's travel, then save that position.
The ESATTO 2" LP uses threaded adapters. The drawtube features a male M60x1 thread for attaching camera-side accessories. PrimaLuceLab's optional camera adapters for the LP go from M60 to T2, M48 or M54, with a stop ring that lets you rotate the camera while keeping it in the optical axis; a 2" visual back for ESATTO 2" LP is also available.
On the telescope side, optional adapters include the Adapter ESATTO 2" LP and ARCO 2" for telescopes with SC thread (PL3600542, optical thickness 2.5mm) and the Adapter ESATTO 2" LP for telescopes with large 3.3" SC thread (PL3600539).
The USB-C port connects to an EAGLE or any Windows computer, and the included cable fits any USB type port. For wireless control, built-in WiFi allows you to connect directly to the focuser from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
When connected via WiFi, you can use the included ESATTO Virtual HandPad without an EAGLE or computer. It moves the focuser and saves up to 9 named focus positions, which are also available when you control the ESATTO over USB. It is intended for visual use. The status LEDs are dimmable, and DARK mode turns them off.
It works with PrimaLuceLab's PLAY astrophotography software, which controls focus with ESATTO and camera rotation with ARCO; PLAY needs at least an ESATTO or SESTO SENSO 2, and installed on an EAGLE it adds more advanced features.
An ASCOM driver (tested with ASCOM platform 7) lets third-party software control the focuser, and a Windows 64 bit driver supports Windows 10 and 11.
Focus can shift as temperature changes. The ESATTO 2" LP has an internal sensor that reads the motor temperature; for focus temperature compensation you connect the optional external probe to its port.
With the probe connected, the ESATTO reports temperature with its position, and autofocus can be set to run after a temperature change.
The ESATTO 2" LP has a calibration sensor; on the LP versions it detects the max in position. Every ESATTO is pre-calibrated in PrimaLuceLab's factory and can be recalibrated from PLAY or the Virtual HandPad.
Calibration data is stored in the ESATTO's memory, so you don't need to calibrate when switching computers. Service or calibration of the 2" LP's internal mechanism (the registration procedure) should only be done by PrimaLuceLab.
The focuser has an ARCO port: the ARCO camera rotator and field de-rotator connects to it with a single cable, without additional USB or 12V power cables. The optional Adapter ESATTO 2" LP for ARCO 2" (PL3600538) joins the two (ARCO 2" thickness 22mm with it).
When paired with the optional ARCO 2" rotator, the combined system offers a rotating focuser with a total thickness of just 54.2mm, maintaining a compact profile. ARCO lets you remotely set the camera rotation angle for framing, and with an alt-az mount it can de-rotate the field without an equatorial wedge.
It can be powered through USB from an EAGLE or computer. If a computer's USB ports deliver less than 0.5A, the focuser may stop abruptly, and you must also connect 12V through the included cigarette plug cable (5.5/2.5 connector, positive tip; maximum 350mA at 12V). For WiFi control from a 12V supply, use at least 1A.
For the LP models, you first extract the focuser draw tube to reach the grub screws that lock it on the telescope adapter.
With the optional 0.7x reducer, the EdgeHD 8" back focus drops from 133mm to 105mm. At 32mm thick, the ESATTO 2" LP still leaves a lot of space for camera and accessories, and it connects without touching the primary mirror lock knobs and the manual focus knob.
The 10mm travel is the price of the 32mm body. Set your back focus with spacers or extensions so that focus falls within the travel; then the ESATTO handles the focusing.
The ESATTO 2" LP has a payload capacity of 5kg. Add up the weight of your camera and accessories and stay within it.
You can control the ESATTO 2" LP in multiple ways:
Its free aperture is 50.9mm, and with the ARCO 2" added the rotating focuser keeps the 50.9mm free aperture at 54.2mm total thickness.
Yes. The ESATTO 2" LP requires optional, separately purchased adapters for both the telescope and camera sides to ensure a secure, threaded connection. PrimaLuceLab offers telescope adapters (for example SC thread, PL3600542, and large 3.3" SC thread, PL3600539) and camera adapters from M60 to T2, M48 or M54 with stop ring.
Yes, from an EAGLE or a computer whose USB port delivers enough current. The manual says a USB port delivering less than 0.5A can make the focuser stop abruptly; then you must also connect 12V with the included cable.
The ESATTO 2" LP has an internal motor temperature sensor and a port for an optional external probe. With the probe connected, the focuser reports temperature, and autofocus can be set to run after a temperature change.
The ESATTO 2" LP has a dedicated ARCO port. With the Adapter ESATTO 2" LP for ARCO 2" (PL3600538), the ARCO 2" mounts on the focuser and connects with a single cable, with no additional USB or 12V cables. The result is a rotating focuser 54.2mm thick with 50.9mm free aperture.
No. Every ESATTO is pre-calibrated in PrimaLuceLab's factory, and the calibration data is stored in its memory, so switching computers needs no new calibration.
PLAY is PrimaLuceLab's astrophotography software; it controls focus with ESATTO and rotation with ARCO, and adds more advanced features on an EAGLE. The ASCOM driver lets third-party software control the focuser. The manual notes that only one program can be connected to the ESATTO at a time: disconnect it from PLAY before connecting another program.
