What makes the PrimaLuceLab ESATTO 3.5" LP ideal for an astrograph?
Astrographs often have very limited backfocus. The ESATTO 3.5" LP is 32mm thick, with a 10kg payload capacity and a 90mm free aperture.
How can I control the ESATTO 3.5" LP focuser remotely?
You have multiple options for controlling the ESATTO 3.5" LP:
-
USB-C: Connect it to an EAGLE computer or any Windows PC for control via ASCOM drivers or the included PLAY software.
-
WiFi: Use the built-in WiFi to connect to your smartphone or tablet and control focusing with the ESATTO Virtual HandPad app.
-
EAGLE Integration: An EAGLE can also control it wirelessly in GHOST mode instead of over a USB cable.
Will the ESATTO 3.5" LP work with my Celestron EdgeHD 1100 telescope?
Yes. PrimaLuceLab makes an optional adapter (PL3600362) specifically for telescopes with the large 3.3" SC thread, such as the Celestron SCT (11" and 14") and EdgeHD (9.25", 1100, and 1400) models. With its 2mm optical thickness and the 32mm focuser, 112mm of back focus remains for your camera and accessories.
Can I power the ESATTO 3.5" LP with just the USB-C cable?
Often yes. The manual says a computer USB port that delivers less than 0.5A can make the focuser stop abruptly; then also connect an external 12V power source with the included cable.
What is the benefit of connecting the ARCO rotator to the ESATTO 3.5" LP?
With the PL3600467 adapter and the ARCO 3", you get a rotating focuser 58.5mm thick. The ARCO connects to the ESATTO's ARCO port with a single cable, with no additional USB or 12V cables, and lets you set the camera angle remotely.
Is the 10mm travel of the ESATTO 3.5" LP enough for focusing?
The 10mm travel is the price of the 32mm body. Set your back focus with spacers or extensions so that focus falls within the travel; the ESATTO then handles the focusing.
How does temperature compensation work on the ESATTO 3.5" LP?
The focuser has an internal temperature sensor to monitor motor heat and a port for an optional external probe for focus temperature compensation. With the probe connected, the focuser reports temperature, and autofocus can be set to run after a temperature change.
How do I attach my camera to the ESATTO 3.5" LP?
The focuser has a standard M98x1 female thread on the camera side. You will need an optional adapter to match your specific camera or accessory. PrimaLuceLab offers M98 to M68 and M98 to M54 adapters with stop ring, an M98 to M72 female adapter and a 3" visual back.
Do I need to calibrate the ESATTO 3.5" LP when I first get it?
No. Every ESATTO is calibrated in PrimaLuceLab's factory (on LP versions the sensor detects the max in position), and the data is stored in the focuser's memory, so moving between computers needs no new calibration.
Can I use the ESATTO 3.5" LP focuser for visual observing?
Yes. By connecting to the focuser's WiFi network with a smartphone or tablet, you can use the Virtual HandPad to focus without touching the telescope; the 3" visual back takes accessories with a 3" nosepiece.
