The 10mm Hyperion provides a generous 68° apparent field of view, creating a "spacewalk" experience that keeps celestial objects centered longer and reveals more of the surrounding starfield. This wide view is rendered with exceptional contrast and light transmission thanks to Baader's Phantom Group multi-coatings. These advanced coatings are optimized to be most effective where the night-adapted eye is most sensitive, minimizing reflections across the visual spectrum to deliver brighter images and detect fainter stars.
Unlike conventional eyepieces, the Hyperion 10mm features a modular construction. The front negative lens assembly can be unscrewed from the main body, transforming the eyepiece for different applications. By adding optional Baader Fine Tuning Rings (FTR) between the sections, you can incrementally decrease the eyepiece's focal length, increasing magnification without the need for a Barlow lens. This system maintains optical sharpness because it introduces no additional lens elements into the light path.
The Hyperion 10mm is designed for astrophotography. Removing the rubber eyeguard reveals two distinct threads for securely coupling cameras. The M43 thread allows for classic eyepiece projection imaging with DSLRs and dedicated astro-cameras via an optional T-ring adapter. The larger SP54 thread is designed for afocal projection, allowing you to attach digital cameras or camcorders where the lens cannot be removed, capturing the image projected by the eyepiece.

You can alter the 10mm focal length by first unscrewing the front 1.25" barrel section, which contains the negative lens group. At the same 10mm focal length, the Hyperion's 68° apparent field of view will show a significantly wider patch of sky than a standard Plössl's 50°-52° field. This means you can frame more of the Orion Nebula's (M42) faint, extended wings and the nearby Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977) in a single view, providing much more context.
