The Baader Calcium GEN-II Filter replaces the legacy double-stacked K-Line model, delivering a narrower bandpass for high-contrast solar imaging in a single 1.25" housing. Designed for camera-only use in any standard 1.25" filter wheel or nosepiece, this filter targets the near-UV emission line of calcium to reveal dynamic chromospheric structures invisible in white light.
This filter isolates the light from ionized calcium, providing a view of the turbulent border region between the sun's visible surface (photosphere) and its upper atmosphere (chromosphere). This allows your monochrome camera to capture details like the chromospheric network across the entire solar disk, the granular patterns of supergranulation, and the brief, intense brightenings known as Ellerman Bombs.
This filter is for photographic use only. The near-UV wavelengths it transmits are invisible to the human eye, which cannot trigger a blink reflex to protect itself. Attempting to view the sun visually with this filter, even with a pre-filter, can result in permanent eye damage.
This GEN-II filter makes the previous double-stacked K-Line model obsolete. You will get much better results with a monochrome camera.
