The Daystar Front Gold Side 2" Drawtube Snout is an essential adapter for securely mounting your Daystar solar filter, providing a male T-thread for direct connection to your imaging camera. This component fits into any standard 2-inch focuser or visual back, ensuring a rigid and properly aligned optical train for high-resolution solar imaging.
This drawtube snout replaces standard slip-fit adapters, creating a solid, threaded link between your Daystar filter and your camera. By using the integrated T-threads, you eliminate the potential for tilt or flexure that can be introduced by eyepiece holders with compression rings or set screws. This rigid connection is critical for maintaining optical alignment and achieving the sharpest possible solar images.
The Daystar 2" Drawtube Snout is a mechanical adapter. Its primary function is to connect a Daystar filter body to a telescope's 2-inch focuser while providing a standard male T-thread on the output side for securely attaching an imaging camera.
This adapter threads onto the front (telescope side) of a compatible Daystar filter. The 2-inch barrel then slides into your telescope's focuser or visual back and is secured by the focuser's set screws or compression ring. Your T-threaded camera or accessory then screws directly onto the male T-threads of the snout.
The "Front Gold Side" designation indicates that this adapter is intended for the front of the Daystar filter—the side that faces the telescope's objective lens. Daystar uses a color-coded system for its adapters to ensure correct placement in the optical train.
You can connect any camera that has female T-threads or can be adapted to them. This includes most dedicated astronomy cameras (from brands like ZWO, QHY, etc.) and DSLR/mirrorless cameras when used with a model-specific T-ring.
A threaded connection is superior for imaging as it creates a rigid, fixed optical train. A standard slip-fit nosepiece held by a single set screw can introduce slight tilt, which can degrade image sharpness. The T-thread connection on this snout eliminates that possibility, ensuring your camera sensor is perfectly parallel to the focal plane.
While technically possible if you build an adapter train, this snout is optimized for imaging. For visual use, you would typically use a different rear-mounted adapter that accepts a standard 1.25" or 2" diagonal and eyepiece. This T-threaded snout is designed for the shortest, most rigid camera connection.
