The Daystar Scout 60mm Solar Telescope is a purpose-built instrument for observing the sun's dynamic chromosphere in high-contrast Hydrogen Alpha. Its 60mm objective is fully integrated with Daystar's filtration technology, and the optical path terminates in a 16mm clear aperture for use with standard 1.25" eyepieces.
Unlike a simple front-mounted filter, the Scout 60mm is an integrated solar telescope designed from the ground up for H-alpha viewing. The 60mm aperture provides the resolution needed to resolve fine details like spicules at the solar limb and the intricate magnetic structure of plages on the solar disk. Because it is a dedicated system, all optical components are optimized for the single, narrow wavelength of Hydrogen Alpha light, delivering superior contrast for viewing filaments and prominences.

To use it, you simply move the telescope until the bright dot is centered on the screen. This ensures the sun is in your eyepiece's field of view without you ever having to look directly at it through a finder scope.
