You will need to remove the teflon block of your stock focuser and transfer it on the upgrade kit, as well as the screws.

Nice upgrade to Dob with existing single speed focusser

Feels very solid and sturdy.
Very simple to install. Fits perfectly on existing focusser ( Celestron starsense 10in Dob, in my case)
Works great. Very smooth.
It is a very nice and easy upgrade for Dob with single speed focusser. And cheaper than replacing the entire focusser unit.

Lacerta Dual Speed Upgrade

Installed this on my XT10. Very simple installation, so easy even I could do it. Been using the stock single speed focuser for years. After last night's first light with this upgrade I have to ask myself why I waited so long to get it. If you're thinking about this upgrade kit, just do it. You can thank me later.

Ignore my previous one star rating.

After further research I must admit I was led to installing this focuser by a YouTube video. The person never instructed using the set crew or the Teflon from previous focuser. In fact he didn’t even insert Teflon pad into the Lacerta.
I redid it and now it works perfectly. Holding my Binotron 27 and some hefty Hyperion 24mm eyepieces with no problem. Don’t go by this guy, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJEX4QZCeOg

Doesn’t hold up for binoviewer use.

This instrument can’t hold much weight. My stock focuser on my Starsence 12 inch dob was much stronger. What good is it to spend the extra money to upgrade and all you get is frustration. It was shipped without the set screw so I went to the hardware store and purchased one. Terrible QA department. I guess it’s okay for single eye piece use until you stick a 31 Nagler in. I’m sorry to hear you’re not satisfied with your purchase from optics-pro.com. You’re correct, the Lacerta upgrade kit does not include the set screw, mounting screws, or Teflon block. These parts must be transferred from the stock focuser to the upgrade kit. We highlight that in a red box in our product description to prevent bad surprises, though I’m not sure if optics-pro.com includes the same note on theirs.
I’m also surprised to hear that your stock focuser felt stronger. The upgrade kit doesn’t change the focuser’s load capacity, it simply adds dual-speed functionality. The Synta-made focusers (like the one on your StarSense Dobsonian) have a capacity of about 4 lb max. To achieve that without slippage, the focuser’s tension needs to be adjusted. Since you mentioned the set screw, I suspect you may have already tried this, but if not, it’s worth checking. Your 31mm Nagler weighs around 2.2 lb, and a binoviewer setup should be roughly the same, so the focuser should handle that load once tensioned.

Lacerta Dual Speed 1:10 Microfocus Upgrade Kit

I added this Microfocus Upgrade Kit to my Celestron 8" StarSense Explorer Dobsonian in less than 5 minutes. Very easy to do. Focusing is now so easy to do. Having the fine focus is a dream. I don't understand why it is not stock in this telescope! A great addition for the price.
