What controller do I need for the SCT Bracket, Pulley, Belt, Bolts Kit for SCT14?
This kit contains the mechanical components and motor but requires an external controller for power and logic. You will need a compatible Pegasus Astro controller, such as the Dual Motor Focus Controller, eXternal Motor Controller, or an Ultimate Powerbox v2 (or newer).
Will this SCT Bracket Kit fit my older Celestron 14" SCT?
The "Margarita" style bracket is designed for modern Celestron SCT, EdgeHD, and RASA telescopes. While it fits a wide range of models, some very old Celestron scopes may have a different focuser knob assembly. If you are uncertain, it is best to compare your telescope's focuser to the product images or contact us for confirmation.
Why use a belt and pulley system for the SCT14 focuser?
The belt-driven design intentionally places the motor to the side of the focuser shaft. This creates crucial clearance space at the rear of the telescope, preventing the motor from colliding with other equipment in your imaging train, such as a large filter wheel, off-axis guider, or focal reducer.
Can I use this SCT Bracket Kit on my Meade 14" LX200?
While designed and tested for Celestron telescopes, the bracket has been found to fit some Meade SCT models that use a similar round focuser knob. Compatibility is not guaranteed. Please carefully check the product photos against your Meade's focuser assembly before purchasing.
How does the zero-backlash motor in this SCT kit improve my images of Jupiter?
When imaging Jupiter at high magnification, achieving perfect focus is critical and changes constantly due to atmospheric seeing. A zero-backlash motor allows your software to make tiny, precise, and repeatable adjustments to the focus. This means you spend less time fighting mechanical slop and more time capturing sharp data during moments of steady air.
Is the 0.8Kg/cm motor strong enough to move the mirror on a Celestron 14" EdgeHD?
Yes. The 0.8Kg/cm of holding torque is ample for moving the large primary mirror of a C14 or EdgeHD 1400. This ensures that focus adjustments are direct and immediate, without motor stalls or slippage, even when moving the heavy mirror against gravity.
