  • Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox Advance (Gen2)

The Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox Advance (Gen2) centralizes your entire imaging rig's power management into a single, compact 250-gram unit. It drives your mount, camera, and accessories through four 12V outputs with a total capacity of 10 Amps, while two independent 5 Amp PWM channels provide precise, automated dew heater control. A dedicated DSLR output port offers software-adjustable voltage from 3V to 12V, and the included environmental sensor monitors ambient conditions with ±0.5°C temperature accuracy, all managed via a single USB3 cable to your PC.

    4 x 12V Outputs with 10A Total Capacity

At the core of the Pocket Powerbox Advance is a robust power distribution system designed to eliminate cable clutter. The four 2.1mm 12V outputs share a total maximum current of 10 Amps, sufficient to run a complete astrophotography setup including a GoTo mount, main imaging camera, guide camera, and filter wheel. Each port can be individually switched on or off via the Pegasus Astro Unity Platform software, giving you full control over your equipment from your computer.

Dual 5A PWM Channels & Adjustable 3-12V DSLR Port

The PPBADV goes beyond simple power distribution with two regulated output circuits. Two RCA outputs provide Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) power, delivering up to 5 Amps per channel to control the intensity of dew heater strips or the brightness of a flat panel. A dedicated 2.1mm output provides up to 3 Amps of power for DSLR and mirrorless cameras, with a software-adjustable voltage output that can be set to 3V, 5V, 8V, 9V, or 12V to match your specific camera's requirements without needing a separate adapter.

    Included Sensor with ±0.5°C Accuracy

Every Pocket Powerbox Advance includes an external temperature and humidity sensor that plugs into the dedicated RJ12 port. This sensor reads temperatures from -40 to 80°C with an accuracy of ±0.5°C and relative humidity from 0-100% with 2-5% accuracy. This data enables the Unity Platform software to calculate the dew point and automatically adjust the power levels of your dew heaters via the PWM outputs, preventing moisture from forming on your optics without wasting power.

A 250g Unit for Full Rig Management

Engineered for portability, the entire system is housed in a rugged, blue anodized aluminum enclosure measuring just 100mm x 71mm x 24mm. Weighing only 250 grams, the Pocket Powerbox Advance adds minimal weight to your telescope setup, making it ideal for everything from wide-field trackers to observatory-grade mounts. A single USB3 Type B cable connects the unit to your control PC, providing a stable, high-speed link for managing all power and sensor functions through one interface.

Pocket Powerbox Advance vs. Pocket Powerbox Micro

While the Pocket Powerbox Micro is an excellent entry-level solution for basic power needs, the Pocket Powerbox Advance offers critical upgrades for more demanding imaging rigs.

    • DSLR Power Port: The Micro lacks a dedicated, variable-voltage output. The Advance includes a software-adjustable 3-12V port, allowing you to power a wide range of DSLR/mirrorless cameras directly without extra adapters.
    • Dew Heater Control: The Advance features two independent 5A PWM channels for dew control, allowing for separate management of primary and secondary/guidescope heaters. The Micro typically has a single PWM channel.
    • Connectivity: The Pocket Powerbox Advance utilizes a robust USB3 Type B connector for communication with the host PC.

For imagers using a DSLR or running multiple dew heater straps, the added functionality of the Pocket Powerbox Advance provides a significant step up in integration and control.

  • What is the total power output of the Pocket Powerbox Advance Gen2?

The Pocket Powerbox Advance (Gen2) can deliver a maximum total current of 10 Amps across its four 12V DC outputs. Additionally, it has two PWM channels that can each supply up to 5 Amps and an adjustable DSLR port that supplies up to 3 Amps.

Can I power my Canon or Nikon DSLR with the Pocket Powerbox Advance?

Yes. The dedicated DSLR output port is software-adjustable to 3, 5, 8, 9, or 12 Volts with a 3 Amp maximum current. You will need a separate battery coupler (dummy battery) that fits your specific camera model and terminates in a 2.1mm DC plug to connect to the Powerbox.

How does the Pocket Powerbox Advance sensor help with dew on my 8" SCT?

By placing the included sensor near your telescope, the Pocket Powerbox Advance measures the ambient temperature (with ±0.5°C accuracy) and humidity. The software calculates the dew point and automatically applies power to your dew straps via the two 5 Amp PWM channels. This keeps your SCT's corrector plate clear of condensation all night without requiring manual adjustments.

What software do I need to control the Pocket Powerbox Advance?

The Pocket Powerbox Advance is controlled by the free Pegasus Astro Unity Platform. This software provides a single interface to control all power ports, set the DSLR voltage, monitor the voltmeter, and configure automatic dew heater control based on sensor readings. It is also compatible with ASCOM drivers for use with third-party automation software.

Is the 10 Amp total current enough for a full imaging rig?

A 10 Amp capacity is generally sufficient for many common imaging setups. A typical rig with a mount (2-3 Amps), a cooled CMOS camera (2-3 Amps), a guide camera, and a filter wheel will usually operate well within this limit. However, power-hungry mounts or cameras with aggressive cooling may require a unit with a higher total amperage, such as the Ultimate Powerbox.

What's the difference between the 12V outputs and the PWM outputs on the Pocket Powerbox Advance?

The four 12V outputs are simple on/off switched ports designed to provide constant 12V power to devices like your mount or camera. The two PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) outputs are designed for resistive loads like dew heaters; they rapidly switch the power on and off to precisely control the heat output, which you set as a percentage (0-100%) in the software.
