PrimaLuceLab Counterweight PLUS 1Kg
- Adds 1 Kg for precise balance adjustments
- Compact 65x60mm footprint
- 35mm thickness
- Stackable design for creating heavier weights
- Integrates with the PrimaLuceLab PLUS system
The PrimaLuceLab Counterweight PLUS 1Kg provides a compact, 65x60mm solution for precise telescope balancing. With a thickness of just 35mm, this 1 Kg weight allows for fine adjustments to your optical tube's balance, eliminating the need for large, imprecise shifts of main counterweights on the declination axis.
When you add a camera, guidescope, or heavy eyepiece to your telescope, the center of balance shifts. The Counterweight PLUS 1Kg is designed to correct these minor but critical imbalances directly on the optical tube assembly. By mounting this weight to a Vixen or Losmandy dovetail bar (using an optional PLUS clamp), you can place the 1 Kg mass precisely where it's needed—at the front to balance a heavy camera, or at the rear to compensate for a large objective or dew shield.
Engineered as a core component of the PrimaLuceLab PLUS ecosystem, this counterweight offers more than just dead weight. Its 65x60mm body features central threaded holes designed to connect multiple weights together. This allows you to stack two, three, or more units to create a custom 2 Kg or 3 Kg weight block without increasing the footprint, solving more significant balance issues with the same modular system.
The Counterweight PLUS 1Kg is designed to be mounted onto a Vixen or Losmandy style dovetail plate. You will need an optional PrimaLuceLab PLUS Dovetail Clamp to secure the counterweight to the plate on your optical tube.
Yes. The counterweights are designed to be modular and stackable. They feature a central threaded connection that allows you to screw multiple 1 Kg weights together, effectively creating a single 2 Kg, 3 Kg, or heavier counterweight as needed for your setup.
A standard counterweight balances your setup on the right ascension axis. The Counterweight PLUS 1Kg balances the optical tube itself on the declination axis. This is crucial for smooth, precise movements and reduces stress on your mount's motors, especially when your OTA is front- or rear-heavy due to accessories.
A single 1 Kg weight is often sufficient to correct minor imbalances on a small-to-medium refractor. By mounting it on a dovetail bar as far to the rear as possible, you maximize its effect. If the imbalance is significant, the stackable design allows you to add a second 1 Kg weight for more corrective force.
For an 8" SCT, a guidescope typically makes the setup top-and-rear heavy. To compensate, you would mount the Counterweight PLUS 1Kg on a dovetail bar attached to the underside of your main optical tube. Position it as far forward as possible to counteract the weight of the guidescope and focuser at the rear.
The counterweight has a compact footprint of 65mm x 60mm and is 35mm thick. This allows it to be placed in tight spaces on your telescope rig without interfering with the mount or other accessories.
