    The Sky-Watcher Emerald 9mm 82° Eyepiece is a high-magnification wide-field eyepiece for the Moon, the planets, double stars and small deep-sky targets. Its 82° apparent field of view is more than 50% wider than the roughly 50° field of a standard Plössl, so targets sit inside a broad, immersive view and stay in the eyepiece longer on a non-tracking telescope. The 7-element, fully multi-coated optical design is housed in a precision-machined all-metal body with a 1.25" barrel, and the eyepiece ships with a protective travel case with strap.

    82° Field: 0.62° of Sky at 133x in a 1200mm Telescope

    In a telescope with a 1200mm focal length, such as an 8-inch f/6 Dobsonian, the Emerald 9mm delivers 133x. Dividing the 82° apparent field by that magnification gives a true field of about 0.62°. That is wider than the full Moon, which spans about 0.5°, so the entire lunar disk fits in the field at 133x.

    8mm of Eye Relief in a 1.25" Eyepiece

    With 8mm of eye relief, the Emerald 9mm is best used without eyeglasses. Observers who need to keep their glasses on generally look for about 15mm of eye relief or more. At 0.36 lbs (0.16 kg) and 3" x 1.43" (length x width), it is compact and light enough to swap freely without upsetting the balance of most telescopes.

    What magnification will the Emerald 9mm give me?

    Divide your telescope's focal length by 9. In a 1200mm Dobsonian it gives 133x, in a 700mm refractor such as the Evostar EDX 100 it gives 78x, and in a 2700mm Maksutov such as the Skymax 180 it gives 300x.
