How do I assemble the Sky-Watcher Flextube 200P?
Build the flat-packed base with the supplied screws, Teflon pad, saddle side bearings and tools. Place the tube so its side bearings rest on the saddle bearings, fit the handles with the tension control handle on the focuser side, and slide the finder bracket into its slot.
What is the purpose of the Tension Control Handle on the Flextube 200P?
It adds just enough friction for the tube to move when nudged but stay in position when not. Re-adjust it when accessories are added or removed; leave the handle on the other side slightly loose.
How do I extend and collapse the tube?
To use the telescope, unlock the three locking screws on the bottom tube, hold the knob on the top tube and pull it up until it clicks in place, then retighten the screws. To transport it, unlock the screws, hold the black handles, slide the upper tube down onto the bottom tube and tighten the screws.
Does the Flextube 200P need to be collimated often?
Newtonians need occasional collimation. Test on a slightly defocused star: symmetrical rings mean it is aligned. The secondary is adjusted with three small screws around its central bolt, and the primary with the adjusting screws at the back, held by locking screws.
What magnification do the included eyepieces give?
60x with the 20 mm eyepiece and 96x with the 12.5 mm.
What is the focal ratio?
f/5.9: a 203mm mirror with a 1200mm focal length.
How does the Flextube 200P break down?
The tube collapses from 44" to 33". The tube weighs 24.2 lb with accessories and the base 26 lb; they move as two pieces.
Can I use 2-inch eyepieces with the Sky-Watcher Flextube 200P?
Yes. The 2" Crayford focuser takes 2" eyepieces, and 2" and 1.25" eyepiece adapters are included.
What should I do before starting an observing session?
Let the telescope cool for at least 10 to 30 minutes, keep your eyes to red light only for 30 minutes, and remove the dust cap on the bottom tube and the black plastic end-cap on the focuser.
How do I align the 8x50 RACI finderscope?
In daylight, center an object at least 500 yards away in the main eyepiece, then use the two alignment screws on the finder bracket to center its crosshairs on the same object.
Can I look at the Sun with the Flextube 200P?
Only with a proper solar filter. Never look directly at the Sun through the telescope, never use an eyepiece-type solar filter, never project sunlight with it, and cap the finderscope when observing the Sun.
How big is the base?
It measures 29.5" x 20" and weighs 26 lb.
