How do I choose the right size Telegizmos cover for my Dobsonian?
First, identify your telescope's type (tube or truss) and its typical parked position (vertical or horizontal). For vertical-park scopes, check your set-up dimensions against the stated circumference and height of the TG1D, TG2D, TG3D and TG4D. For large horizontal-park truss Dobs, measure these: the combined tube and mirror box, the top of the mirror box to the ground with the scope horizontal, the width of the mirror box, the width of the base, the diameter of the UTA and the total vertical height. Compare these with the TG5D, TG6D and TG7D specs.
Can I leave my telescope outside permanently with this Telegizmos Standard cover?
No. The Standard Series cover is intended for temporary outside storage only. For permanent or long-term outdoor storage, more than 1 to 2 weeks of continuous exposure, you must use the TeleGizmos 365 Series cover, which is specifically designed and warranted for 24/7, 365-day exposure.
What is the difference between a Telegizmos Standard cover and a 365 Series cover?
The primary difference is the intended use and material construction.
-
Standard Cover: Made of a multi-layer polyethylene material with a fully aluminized surface and embedded fibrous webbing. It is light and designed for temporary outdoor storage; for more than 1 to 2 weeks of continuous exposure, use the 365 Series.
-
365 Series Cover: A dual-layer system with an acrylic-coated woven polyester outer shell and the solar radiant material as an inner liner. It is designed and warranted for continuous 24/7, 365-day outdoor exposure.
How does the Telegizmos cover protect my 16" truss Dob from heat during the day?
The Telegizmos cover for a 16" truss Dob parked vertical to 60 degrees down (model TG4D) has a highly reflective, fully aluminized surface. This acts as a radiant barrier, keeping a scope left in sunlight much cooler than if it were uncovered and allowing a much faster cool-down once night falls.
Will condensation form under my Telegizmos cover?
It can. While the material is waterproof and protects from rain and dew, no cover can completely prevent condensation from forming on the telescope itself, especially in humid climates or during rapid temperature drops. The cover traps air inside, and if that air is moist, the moisture can condense on the cool surfaces of the scope as the night gets colder. It is always best practice to ensure your telescope is dry before covering it.
My Dobsonian is modified. Can I get a custom Telegizmos cover?
Yes. TeleGizmos can modify its standard truss Dob covers to fit a modified scope; for example, it added 10" of extra rocker height to a TG5D. For a modified or custom cover, contact us with your scope's measurements.
