William Optics ZWO EAF Mounting Bracket with Clutch for WIFD Focusers
This bracket, made by K-ASTEC and sold by William Optics, mounts a ZWO electronic automatic focuser on a William Optics focuser. It is designed around the WIFD focuser and fits other William Optics focusers that use the modular focusing mechanism. Its clutch lets you switch between manual and motorized focusing. It comes in two versions: one for the original ZWO EAF and one for the ZWO EAFN / EAF Pro.
The Clutch: Manual or Motorized Focus
The clutch disengages the ZWO focuser motor from the focuser so you can turn the focus knob by hand, then re-engages it for software-controlled autofocus. William Optics uses a stainless steel, oil-sealed structure for smooth, precise operation. That is handy during setup, when you first look for the approximate focus point with a new camera, or when you want to focus visually at the eyepiece without connecting any software.
Belt Drive, Motor in Line with the Tube
Instead of the stock direct coupling, the bracket uses a belt-driven layout between the motor and the focuser. That lets the EAF sit in line with the telescope tube, for better balance and so you can store the telescope without removing the focuser motor. The bracket is CNC-machined from anodized aluminum alloy, light and rigid.
Check the Mounting Position Before Ordering
The bracket needs clearance for the full height of the EAF, more than 52 mm. Side mounting is therefore recommended, which means rotating the whole telescope tube by 90 degrees. Mounting underneath works only on focusers that are offset from the bottom plate, such as the Ultra-Cat 108 and the FLT120 or larger. On other telescopes you would need a taller riser block; the William Optics riser block is not intended for this. On William Optics focusers other than the WIFD, small dimensional differences may call for a bit of force during installation.
Choosing the Right Version
Original EAF: for the first-generation ZWO EAF focuser motor.
EAFN / EAF Pro: for the newer ZWO EAFN and EAF Pro (2025) focuser motors.
Which version do I need?
Pick the version that matches your ZWO focuser motor: Original EAF for the first-generation ZWO EAF, or EAFN / EAF Pro for the ZWO EAFN and EAF Pro.
Will this bracket fit a focuser that is not a WIFD?
It fits William Optics focusers with a modular focusing mechanism. The WIFD is recommended; on other William Optics focusers, small dimensional differences may call for a bit of force during installation. It is not made for other brands' focusers.
What does the clutch do?
It lets you switch between motorized and manual focusing. Disengage it to focus by hand, then engage it again to let the ZWO focuser take over.
Can I mount the EAF underneath the telescope?
Only on focusers offset from the bottom plate, such as the Ultra-Cat 108 and the FLT120 or larger. The bracket needs clearance for the full height of the EAF (more than 52 mm), so side mounting, with the tube rotated 90 degrees, is recommended on other models.
Can I still focus if my computer or ASIAIR disconnects?
Yes. Disengage the clutch and focus by hand.
