The ZWO ASI662MC features the Sony IMX662 sensor, equipped with a rolling shutter and boasting a frame size of 1/2.8", pixel size of 2.9µm, and 2.07 million pixels (1920×1080 resolution). In high-speed mode, this CMOS sensor delivers an impressive 107.6 frames per second at full resolution while maintaining low read noise levels.
The ASI662MC adopts the latest SONY IMX662 sensor with the advanced STARVIS 2 technology. Featuring zero amp glow, higher sensitivity to red and near infrared (NIR) light, and 3 times larger full well capacity, it can be regarded as an upgrade of ASI462MC.
Large Full Well Capacity
The ASI662MC incorporates the advanced Sony IMX662 sensor, showcasing cutting-edge technology. This sensor significantly improves upon its predecessors by offering extremely low readout noise and a full well capacity three times larger than that of the IMX462. These enhancements help prevent overexposure and allow for longer exposure times. Additionally, the camera excels in low light conditions, capturing exceptionally clear images of celestial objects.
256MB DDR3 Buffer
The camera features a USB 3.0 transmission interface and comes with a built-in 256MB DDR3 cache to provide stable and secure data transmission. This setup effectively prevents frame dropping during long exposures and significantly minimizes the glow effect associated with slow read speeds.
Performance Diagrams
Readout noise encompasses pixel noise, circuit noise, and ADC quantization noise, with lower levels being preferable. The ASI662MC demonstrates significantly lower readout noise compared to traditional CCD cameras. Its built-in High Conversion Gain (HCG) mode effectively reduces readout noise at high gain settings while maintaining the camera's high dynamic range, similar to that at low gain. When the gain reaches 252, the HCG mode automatically activates, boosting the dynamic range back to 11 stops.
Quantum Efficiency
The QE (Quantum Efficiency) curve and readout noise are crucial metrics for assessing a camera's performance. Higher QE and lower readout noise are essential for enhancing the image's signal-to-noise ratio, leading to clearer and more detailed captures.
