  • ZWO ASIAIR Plus WiFi Camera Controller - 256GB Version

The ZWO ASIAIR Plus 256G replaces an entire laptop-based software stack, integrating your mount, camera, and accessories into a single wireless hub with 256GB of internal storage. The included set of four DC power cables (two 0.5m and two 1m) and a 0.75m USB 3.0 cable centralize your connections, drastically reducing cable drag for more reliable tracking all night long.

256GB Onboard Storage for All-Night Imaging

This version of the ASIAIR Plus features 256GB of fast eMMC internal storage and, as ZWO points out, has no TF card slot. The internal storage removes the need for external USB drives for most imaging sessions. You have ample space to capture hours of data from high-resolution CMOS sensors, run complex mosaic plans, or shoot high-framerate planetary video without worrying about running out of room before sunrise.

Wireless Rig Control via the ASIAIR App

Leave the laptop inside. The ASIAIR Plus creates its own robust dual-band WiFi network, allowing you to control every aspect of your imaging session from a smartphone or tablet. From initial polar alignment and GoTo slewing to precise focusing, plate solving, and autoguiding, the entire workflow is managed through a single, intuitive app interface.

    Streamlined Power and Cable Management

The ASIAIR Plus body functions as a central power distribution hub for your entire setup. Its multiple 12V DC outputs can power your cooled camera, an electronic focuser, and other accessories directly, fed by a single power supply to the ASIAIR itself. This consolidation of wiring is a significant upgrade, preventing the cable snags and drags that are a common cause of ruined sub-exposures.

Automated Imaging: From Plate Solving to Mosaics

The ASIAIR software suite combines the functions of planetarium software, camera control, autoguiding, and sequencing into one integrated system. Use the SkyAtlas to find and frame your target, then build a fully automated plan using Autorun or Plan mode. The system can run unattended for hours, automatically slewing to targets, plate solving to center them perfectly, and managing meridian flips without any user intervention.

ASIAIR Plus 256G vs. Earlier 32GB/64GB Models

The core function of providing wireless, app-based control over your astrophotography rig is consistent across recent ASIAIR generations. The defining advantage of the ZWO ASIAIR Plus 256G is its vast increase in internal storage, which directly addresses the demands of modern, high-resolution imaging sensors.

    • Storage Capacity: With 256GB of onboard eMMC storage, this model offers a significant leap over the 32GB or 64GB found in previous versions, reducing the reliance on external storage devices.
    • System Stability: The integrated eMMC storage provides a more stable and reliable platform for the operating system and image storage, with an automatic recovery mode to restore the system in case of a boot-up fault.
    • Future-Proofing: For imagers using large-format sensors like the ASI2600 or ASI6200, or for those planning extensive mosaic projects, the 256GB capacity is not a luxury but a necessity for seamless operation.

  • How much data can the ASIAIR Plus 256G hold?

The ASIAIR Plus 256G comes with 256GB of total internal eMMC storage. This provides ample space for multiple nights of imaging, even with high-resolution cameras that produce large files. It effectively eliminates the need to manage external USB drives or SD cards in the field for most projects.

Can I use the ASIAIR Plus 256G to automate a multi-night mosaic of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) with a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro?

Yes, this is an ideal scenario for the ASIAIR Plus 256G. The ASIAIR app's Plan mode allows you to set up multi-panel mosaics, and the 256GB of storage is more than sufficient to hold all the data from a large project like an M31 mosaic, even with a high-resolution camera like the ASI2600MC Pro.

What do I need to power the ASIAIR Plus 256G and my connected gear?

You will need a stable DC power supply that can provide 11V-15V. A 12V 5A power supply is typically recommended to ensure enough power for the ASIAIR Plus itself, as well as for the devices connected to its power output ports, such as a cooled camera or an electronic focuser.

Does the ASIAIR Plus 256G completely replace a laptop in the field?

For image acquisition, yes. The ASIAIR Plus 256G handles everything from device control and polar alignment to plate solving, autoguiding, and sequencing. You will still need a computer for post-processing your images (stacking and editing), but the ASIAIR eliminates the need for a laptop at the telescope.

How does the ASIAIR Plus 256G handle autoguiding with an 8" f/10 SCT on a target like Jupiter?

The ASIAIR Plus 256G is fully capable of managing autoguiding for planetary imaging with an SCT. It connects to your guide camera and sends corrections to your mount just like PC-based software. For planetary work, you would typically use the video recording function to capture high-framerate video, and the 256GB of storage provides plenty of space for long capture sessions.

Can I connect non-ZWO cameras and mounts to the ASIAIR Plus 256G?

Yes, but with limitations. The ASIAIR Plus 256G supports a wide range of popular equatorial mounts from various manufacturers, as well as many Canon and Nikon DSLR/mirrorless cameras. However, for full integration of accessories like electronic focusers (EAF) and filter wheels (EFW), you are generally best served by using ZWO's own products. Always check the official ZWO compatibility list for your specific equipment.
