  • DwarfLab DWARF Mini Smart Telescope

The DwarfLab DWARF Mini Smart Telescope packs a complete astrophotography system, including a 30 mm telephoto aperture, a 7000 mAh battery, and 64 GB of internal storage, into a compact body that weighs just 840 g. Its dual-camera design combines a 150 mm focal length telephoto system for deep-sky and solar system targets with a wide-angle camera for easy aiming and capturing expansive star fields. Both cameras output 1920 x 1080 (2.07 MP), with exposures up to 90 seconds in Equatorial Mode. The entire system is controlled wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet via the DWARFLAB app, automating everything from GoTo slewing and star tracking to live stacking and post-processing.

    An 840 g All-in-One Smart Telescope

The DWARF Mini integrates a telescope, camera, and motorized tracking mount into a single unit weighing just 840 g. This design eliminates the need for heavy, complex equipment, and you can go from unboxing to shooting in 3 minutes. The system is built for portability, making it an ideal companion for backyard sessions, travel to dark-sky sites, and daytime nature viewing.

Control is handled entirely through the DWARFLAB app on your iOS or Android device, connecting via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 5.0. The app handles target finding, autofocus, GoTo and star tracking for you.

Dual-Camera System with 150 mm Apo Telephoto

The DWARF Mini uses two separate optical systems to streamline the imaging process. The primary telephoto lens features a 30 mm aperture and a 150 mm focal length (f/5), providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 1016 mm for detailed views of celestial objects. Its 6 apochromatic optical lenses give sharp, clear images.

Alongside the telephoto lens is a wide-angle camera with a 6.7 mm focal length, which serves two key functions. It provides a broad 50.59° field of view for quick framing and aiming of the telephoto camera, and it can be used independently for capturing wide star fields, the Milky Way, and star trails.

Dual 2.07 MP Sensors with 2.9 µm Pixels

Both the telephoto and wide-angle cameras are built around sensors that produce a 1920 x 1080 (2.07 MP) resolution image. The telephoto system employs a Sony IMX662 sensor, while the wide-angle uses an OmniVision OS02K10. Both are 1/2.8" format, and the IMX662 has 2.9 µm pixels.

The DWARF Mini saves images in multiple formats to suit different workflows. For immediate sharing, you can save JPG and PNG files directly from the app. For advanced work, RAW files can be exported to Photoshop, Siril or PixInsight.

    2.45° Telephoto and 50.59° Wide-Angle Views

The 150 mm telephoto lens provides a 2.45° diagonal field of view. For even larger celestial structures or custom compositions, the DWARFLAB app includes an Astro Mosaic function that automates the process of capturing and stitching multiple panels together.

The wide-angle camera offers an expansive 50.59° diagonal field of view. This is essential for quickly locating and centering your deep-sky target before switching to the telephoto view. It also suits the Milky Way and star trails.

Three Built-in Filters for Noise and Contrast Control

The telephoto camera has three built-in filters. This allows you to adapt to different targets and sky conditions without needing external accessories.

    • Astro Filter (440-680 nm): It boosts nebula contrast by extending into the infrared.
    • Dual-band Filter: This narrowband filter isolates two specific wavelengths at 493 nm (30 nm FWHM) and 656 nm (15 nm FWHM). It is designed to cut moonlight and city glow.
    • Dark Filter: A fully opaque filter that auto-captures dark frames to suppress thermal noise.

Automated GoTo, Stacking, and 90 s Exposures

The DWARF Mini automates the entire deep-sky imaging workflow. After a quick setup, you can select a target from the app's built-in star chart, and the telescope will automatically slew to it, focus, and begin tracking. It then captures and stacks a series of sub-exposures.

In its standard Alt-Az mode, the DWARF Mini tracks objects as they move across the sky. For longer exposures, switch to Equatorial Mode: the DWARF mini then tracks the sky accurately, compensating for Earth's rotation, for subframes up to 90 seconds with no trailing.

Deep Sky, Solar System, and Daytime Imaging

While optimized for deep-sky objects, the DWARF Mini is a versatile imaging tool. It images the Moon and, with the included ND filter in place, the Sun; it also handles ISS transits and solar and lunar eclipses. DWARF devices are not primarily designed for planets but can show Jupiter's moons and Saturn's rings.

During the day, DwarfLab pitches it for birdwatching and scenic viewing.

Stellar Studio In-App Editing and RAW Export

The DWARFLAB app includes a built-in post-processing suite called Stellar Studio, allowing you to go from raw data to a shareable image directly on your phone. It automatically corrects star points, removes noise and enhances nebula details, in under 3 seconds. You can also add custom watermarks to your finished images before sharing them.

For those who prefer a more advanced workflow, the DWARF Mini provides full access to the raw data. You can export RAW files to your own software. The app also supports custom dark, bias and flat calibration frames, and frame-by-frame selection before stacking.

    Scheduled Shooting and Multi-Night Stacking

The DWARF Mini's automation extends to planning and unattended operation. With appointment shooting you set the time and target and the DWARF mini handles the rest while you sleep.

For the faintest deep-sky objects, total integration time is key. The DWARF Mini supports multi-night stacking, allowing you to combine data captured across several different sessions. It merges exposures from multiple nights into one image.

7000 mAh Battery, 64 GB Storage, and Wi-Fi Control

The DWARF Mini is powered by a built-in 7000 mAh battery, rated by DwarfLab at about 4 hours. Power input is USB-C and the battery supports external USB charging. All images and videos are saved to the 64 GB of built-in storage.

It connects directly to your phone or tablet over Wi-Fi, up to 15 meters in an open environment. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC for one-touch connection. The base of the unit features a standard 1/4" mounting thread for attachment to most photo tripods.

    840 g Weight and a 2-Year Warranty

Measuring just 100.38 x 183.61 x 60.70 mm and weighing 840 g, the DWARF mini is billed as the world's smallest smart telescope. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -20 to 45°C, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. The package includes the telescope, an ND filter, a USB-C cable and a wipe cloth.

The DWARF mini carries DwarfLab's 2-year warranty.

DWARF Mini vs. DWARF 3: Portability vs. Imaging Power

The DWARF mini is the smaller, lighter model; the DWARF 3 has the larger aperture and higher resolution. The primary trade-off is between the Mini's ultra-light 840 g weight and the DWARF 3's larger aperture and higher resolution sensor.

    • Aperture and Sensor: The DWARF Mini has a 30 mm aperture and a 2.07 MP Sony IMX662 sensor. The DWARF 3 steps up to a 35 mm aperture and an 8 MP Sony IMX678 sensor, allowing it to gather more light and capture higher-resolution images.
    • Storage: The DWARF Mini comes with 64 GB of built-in storage, while the DWARF 3 has 128 GB.
    • Weight and Size: The DWARF Mini's key advantage is its 840 g weight. The DWARF 3 is larger and heavier at 1350 g, so the mini is the easier one to carry.
    • Use Case: If your priority is maximum portability, ease of setup, and an accessible entry into smart telescope imaging, the DWARF Mini is the ideal choice. If you are looking for higher resolution for larger prints and the ability to capture finer details in deep-sky objects, the DWARF 3 provides a significant step up in imaging performance.
  • What can I realistically see and image with the DWARF Mini?

Deep-sky targets such as nebulae, galaxies and star clusters with the 2.45° telephoto field, the Moon, the Sun with the included ND filter, and the Milky Way and star trails with the wide-angle camera. Other uses include ISS transits, eclipses and Astro Mosaic for larger fields. It can show Jupiter's moons and Saturn's rings but is not designed for planets.

How does the DWARF Mini's Equatorial Mode improve long exposures?

In a standard Alt-Az setup, the sky appears to rotate in the frame, causing stars to trail on long exposures. By tilting the DWARF Mini to align with Earth's axis (Equatorial Mode), it tracks the sky with a single motion. This compensates for field rotation, allowing you to take single exposures up to 90 seconds long, which is critical for capturing faint details in nebulae and galaxies without star trails.

Do I need a computer to process images from the DWARF Mini?

No. The DWARFLAB app has a built-in processing feature called Stellar Studio that handles stacking, noise reduction, and enhancement on your phone. However, for advanced users, the DWARF Mini can export raw FITS and TIFF files, which you can transfer to a computer for processing in software like PixInsight, Siril, or Photoshop.

What are the DWARF Mini's built-in filters for?

Three telephoto filters: an Astro filter that boosts nebula contrast, a dual-band filter (Dual-band 493 nm and 656 nm in the spec table) to cut moonlight and city glow, and a fully opaque Dark filter that auto-captures dark frames to suppress thermal noise.

How long does the DWARF mini's battery last?

About 4 hours from the built-in 3.85 V, 7000 mAh battery. Power input is USB-C and the battery supports external USB charging.

Is the DWARF Mini difficult to set up for a beginner?

No, it's designed for beginners. You place it on a stable surface or tripod, connect it to your phone via the DWARFLAB app, and follow the on-screen instructions. The app handles autofocus, GoTo and star tracking, and you can go from unboxing to shooting in 3 minutes.

Can I use the DWARF Mini for daytime photography?

Yes. DwarfLab pitches the DWARF mini for birdwatching and scenic viewing, and it shoots photos, video, burst and time-lapse.

How much data can the DWARF Mini's 64 GB storage hold?

The 64 GB of built-in storage is enough for multiple imaging sessions. The exact capacity depends on the file format; raw FITS files take up significantly more space than JPGs. You can transfer files to a computer via USB-C or to your phone to free up space.

Do I need an internet connection to operate the DWARF Mini?

No. DWARF devices talk to your phone or tablet directly over Wi-Fi. Internet is only needed for app updates, logs and online features such as Stellar Studio, the star atlas download and PhotonVerse.

How do I safely image the Sun with the DWARF Mini?

Always use the included ND filter when you image the Sun. Never point the DWARF mini at the Sun without it.
