Vanguard QS-71P Long Arca-Compatible Quick Shoe Plate for Spotting Scopes
The Vanguard QS-71P is a long Arca-compatible quick shoe plate that provides a solid, steady link for spotting scopes and long lenses, using an adjustable 1/4" camera screw, a non-twist spring pin, and anti-slip rubber pads to ensure your optics remain securely attached.
Secure Mounting for Spotting Scopes & Long Lenses
Vanguard gave the QS-71P a long, narrow platform made for spotting scopes and longer lenses. Combined with anti-slip rubber pads, it gives a solid, steady link to your scope.
A non-twist spring pin adds security to the connection between the plate and your spotting scope.
Adjustable 1/4" Screw for Precise Balance & Compatibility
Good balance helps a tripod head move smoothly. The Vanguard QS-71P features an adjustable 1/4" screw that can be moved forward and backward, so you can position your spotting scope on the plate. The plate can be attached to the scope in several ways.
-
Tool-Free Attachment: A D-ring allows for quick, by-hand tightening in the field without needing any extra tools.
-
Alternate Methods: The plate can also be attached using a coin, a screwdriver or an Allen key.
-
Broad Compatibility: As an Arca-compatible plate, the QS-71P works with Vanguard VEO tripod heads and the Alta BH, Alta GH, Alta PH-32, Alta PH-31, PH-114V, TBH, BBH, GH-200 and GH-300T heads, as well as other Arca-compatible heads.

Why is the Vanguard QS-71P suited to spotting scopes?
Vanguard designed the long, narrow platform of the QS-71P for spotting scopes and longer lenses, and its 1/4" screw can be moved forward or backward to position the scope.
Is the Vanguard QS-71P compatible with non-Vanguard Arca-type heads?
Yes. The QS-71P is a standard Arca-compatible plate. It will work with any tripod head that uses the Arca-Swiss style quick-release system, regardless of the brand.
How do I adjust the balance of my spotting scope using the Vanguard QS-71P?
To balance your scope, first loosely attach the QS-71P plate. Slide the scope and plate combination forward or backward in your tripod head's clamp until it no longer tips in either direction. Once balanced, lock the clamp on your tripod head. For fine-tuning, you can also adjust the position of the 1/4" screw along the slot in the QS-71P itself before mounting.
Why isn't the Vanguard QS-71P recommended for a standard camera body?
Vanguard says the QS-71P can be used with a camera but is not the optimal choice, and recommends a separate quick-release plate for your camera.
What are the different ways to tighten the 1/4" screw on the QS-71P?
The Vanguard QS-71P offers four ways to tighten the screw for convenience in any situation:
- By hand using the integrated D-ring.
- Using an Allen key.
- Using a coin.
- Using a screwdriver.
How does the QS-71P prevent a spotting scope from twisting on the plate?
The QS-71P uses two features: anti-slip rubber pads on its top surface and a non-twist spring pin. Together they give a solid, steady link to the spotting scope.
