- Compact 66mm x 66mm x 28mm Enclosure
The Pegasus Astro DewZap delivers efficient, reliable dew prevention in a compact 66mm x 66mm x 28mm package designed for any imaging rig. Its dual channels supply up to 5 Amps of current each via Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), providing precise 0-100% power adjustment for two separate dew straps from a standard 12V DC input. Powerful internal MOSFETs ensure there are no voltage drops, sending full power to your heaters when you need it most.
The DewZap manages two independent heater outputs, each capable of handling a 5 Amp load. Instead of using inefficient resistors, it employs Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to digitally control power from 0-100% with a simple turn of a knob. This modern digital approach prevents voltage drops, ensuring your dew straps receive the full input voltage for maximum heating efficiency, even at partial power settings.
Engineered to be unobtrusive, the DewZap's rugged enclosure measures just 66mm x 66mm x 28mm. Power is supplied via a common 2.1mm center-positive socket, and the two heater outputs use industry-standard RCA connectors for broad compatibility with most dew straps on the market. A dedicated LED for each channel provides an immediate visual indication of the power level, glowing brighter as you increase the output.
The DewZap operates on a 12V-13.8V DC power source. You can use a portable 12V battery pack or a mains AC-to-DC adapter. The power input connector is a standard 2.1mm center-positive socket.
Yes. Each of the DewZap's two channels can supply up to 5 Amps of current. This is more than sufficient to power large dew straps for primary mirrors, corrector plates, and large objective lenses, allowing you to run a heater on both your main telescope and a large guidescope or secondary mirror cage simultaneously.
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is a digital method of controlling power. Instead of reducing voltage (which wastes energy as heat), the DewZap rapidly switches the power on and off. By adjusting the "on" time (the duty cycle), it precisely controls the heater's output from 0-100%. This is highly efficient and ensures your heaters receive the full input voltage, making them more effective at preventing dew.
The DewZap has a dedicated LED indicator light for each of its two channels. The brightness of the LED corresponds to the power output; it will be dim at low settings and grow brighter as you turn the knob to increase the power towards 100%.
Yes. The DewZap uses industry-standard RCA power outlets. As long as your existing dew straps use a male RCA plug and are designed for 12V operation, they will be fully compatible with the DewZap controller.
Yes. The PWM output is also suitable for controlling the speed of 12V DC fans. You can connect a fan with an RCA plug to one of the channels and use the knob to adjust its speed for faster or slower mirror cooling.
