More information

Whether you're an amateur astronomer or a professional astrophotographer, the Askar 140APO will provide you with a high-quality user experience and help you go deeper into the mysteries of the universe.

The Askar 140APO is an OTA with a 140mm aperture, 980mm focal length, and f/7 native focal ratio.

The aperture of 140mm gives it an inherent advantage in terms of light-gathering power, resolution, brightness, and contrast, allowing the photographer to gather more light and present more details and brighter objects in the image. Along with more light coming into the astrograph, the limiting magnitude can reach 12.5.

The Askar 140APO adopts a triplet air-spaced APO lens design, including one piece of ED glass.

The Askar APO series employs special optical designs and multiple lens elements to correct chromatic aberration, naturally providing higher-quality object details and color accuracy.

In the refractor's element structure, increasing the number of lens elements and designing lens combinations can effectively improve chromatic aberration correction. However, this also means increased production costs and design complexity.

ED glass, also known as low-dispersion glass, is a type of optical glass specifically designed to reduce chromatic aberration.

The Askar 140APO

I recently added the Askar 140APO to my astrophotography setup, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The telescope is fairly large, but my ZWO AM5 mount handles it effortlessly without the need for counterweights — one of the primary reasons I chose this scope. It pairs perfectly with the AM5 and maintains excellent stability even for long-exposure imaging.

A unique feature of the Askar 140APO is the need to extend the optical tube assembly (OTA) for Astrophotography. This design makes it more rigid and ideal for astrophotography, minimizing any potential flexure. Night one was a bit of a learning curve as I figured out the focusing, but once dialed in, it’s been smooth sailing.

I recently put the scope through its paces by capturing SH2-157, the Lobster Claw Nebula. The Askar 140APO passed the test with flying colors, producing sharp, high-contrast images with pinpoint stars. The optical quality and build are superb, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance.

Overall, the Askar 140APO is a fantastic addition to my setup, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to step up their astrophotography game.
